Best One-on-One Verbal Sparring Movies

Verbal sparring, etc... First things that come to my mind is "My Dinner With Andre" and "Equus"

Kinda sad, but the first thing I thought of was Megamind. XD
Lots of corny, but somewhat witty, banter.

Here is an underrated one for you though I am not sure 'verbal sparring' quite describes it. Verbally interesting none the less.

The Man From Earth

I wouldn't call 'My Dinner with Andre' sparring, that is more of a friendly conversation to me. For real sparring , maybe 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf'. But it's more than 2 characters.

Yes, VIRGINIA WOOLF, for sure.

Tho I'm also partial to that beloved film that yells, "And I think you are UNDERREACTING, Mrs. Chadwick!!!"
.

reply

Yeah Popcorn, it was a little bit of both. They disagreed, but it never got heated..

"Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe" hands down!! Burton and Taylor, nuff said.

The Sunset Limited (2011)

Autumn Sonata

What a brilliant topic.

I would recommend either Beckett or Lion in Winter

reply

I agree! Both timeless classics. Especially Lion in winter.

reply

I love both of those.

The Big Country is pretty old (1958, I believe) and is not just verbal, but physical, sparring too. I like the combination of the two, especially for its day.

My Dinner with Andre was also good, and far more an example of verbal sparring.
