Ever watch a movie at the Drive-in?

Sure brings brings back great memories thinking about going to the drive-ins. First my parents taking us and some friends. Then when I got my drivers license taking my girlfriend. Getting a Designated driver and the rest of us drinking beer at the drive-in. Sometimes we would take blankets and/or lawn chairs and sit under the stars watching the movies. Great fun! I have a neat web site about drive-ins and it lists every drive-in still open in every state. If I can find it I will post the link here.

Saw a double feature a couple of years ago. The second movie was A Million Way To Due In The West.

You could tell who had kids or were easily offended, because 5 minutes into it Half the people drove (sped) out of there LOL It was HILARIOUS!

I used to live next to a drive-in when I was a kid. My brother and I would turn in the radio and grab the binoculars to watch free movies out of our bedroom window! So cool for a kid in the 80's!

Not even sure if we needed the binoculars, think they were to spy on the couples making out haha

Parents took me to see Jaws when I was 8. Spent most of the movie hiding in the back of their station wagon.

I haven't been to one as an adult but they were a lot of fun as a kid. There's a handful of them around, and they say the sound is much better than the old method of hanging a speaker onto your car. I imagine those with modern, upgraded sound systems for their vehicles are really enjoying the sound of the film, and you can play around with the fade and bass effects.

I remember an episode with those bulky speakers you used to attach to the top of your windshield.

I had a '55 Chevy as a teen, at the drive-in with my girlfriend who had dozed off at some point. I was engrossed in the movie. I found myself suddenly jarred by a loud crunching sound and my car lurching backward. When it finally settled down I eventually processed what had happened. Somehow, my emergency brake had slipped, the vehicle had rolled backward on that graveled incline on which it was parked and part of my window had gotten ripped out. Put a real damper on the rest of the night. Not to mention, driving around with a broken driver's side window for awhile. And the girlfriend ? Slept thru it, completely oblivious.

Well, I can answer two questions simultaneously. I didn't dump her, I might have gotten a good night kiss later on that night and....I married her ! And we continued to patronize that drive-in in a different car, lol.

Speaking of which, the outcome of the car, as Paul Harvey used to say... " is the rest of the story. "

And the movie ? Far receded into the subconscious.

Hah great story db20db! (I mean, not great about what happened to the car, but still, that's a story people will remember).

Drive-ins have that relaxed atmosphere that really feels different. I think people used to smuggle more friends inside their vans or big cars, to avoid paying the extra tickets. All sorts of shenanigans must've been going on lol.
