Most Exciting Summer 2023 Release?

It's a super-stuffed summer, with the return of Batman, Indiana Jones and *yawn* Transformers, but going by the trailers alone, this is the film that's exciting me the most, and we're also talking about one of the most consistent ever movie franchises. Even its worst instalment (Mission: Impossible II) is still watchable. The only thing that bugs me is, why the heck does Ethan Hunt drive his motorcyle off a cliff? Guess I'll have to watch to find out.

reply

I’m looking forward to it as well!
As to the motorcycle off the cliff bit, it worked well enough in Goldeneye.

reply

I'm sure it will be explained. Out of context, it's baffling, but intriguing.

reply

Yeah at this point, pretty much. It’s impressive how much mileage they’ve gotten from this film series.

reply

Right? The last 3 have been excellent

It's a rare case of a franchise getting better with later sequels.

This & the next one are the final ones, so I hope they end it on a high note.

reply

Same here.

For me its Batman (aka The Flash), Indiana Jones, then MI

Its an impressive summer for movies. bit like 1989, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2015 etc

reply

It does feel a bit like the movie summer of 89, when we had Batman, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Ghostbusters 2, Lethal Weapon 2, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Abyss etc etc. And it's funny that so many of these franchises are being revived. It's just a shame that almost all of the new films are franchise movies/sequels, whereas back in 89 there were various sleepers/surprise hits, and original stuff, like the aforementioned Honey... and The Abyss, along with When Harry Met Sally, Parenthood, Dead Poets Society and Uncle Buck. These days, far too many smaller or mid-level films seem to go straight to damn streaming (and I detest Netflix!)

reply

Yes, Cruise is on fire right now.

reply

Most definitively, the most exciting release of the summer for me.

reply

I'm not really excited for this one. I'm over the mission impossible movies.

reply

I'm pumped, but my excited level is ZERO. This is part one. We're not getting a complete story. This is largely going to be a huge waste of time that just sets everything up for part two.

reply

I'd say i'm most looking forward to Oppenheimer this year. But The Flash will likely be the best time I have at the movies in 2023. Be hard to top John Cena cruising around in his own Batmobile in Fast X though.
