Running time of 2 hrs 41 minutes!?!?

That's too long.

reply

And boy did it feel it.

reply

I heard there's too much mourning. Like a good 40 minutes of it.

reply

It's a section of the beginning of the movie. I don't recall that aspect feeling super long or anything though.

reply

Absolutely... this was just boring. I thought it would end Phase BORE on a high note. Umm, nope.

reply

When I heard about the runtime I also thought, it must be a mistake. Someone has to call Kevin Feige and tell him, we want to watch fun movies and not an opera.
I could understand the runtime for Avengers, already to give the heroes enough room, but for a single movie?

reply

It's all about the pace. The last Avengers movies were almost 3 hours and they didn't drag.

How's the pace on this one?

reply

Pace isn't great due the movie having a very segmented structure. Kinda like they cut together a short tv series. Also doesn't help the action scenes aren't very good so they fail as breaks from the story.

reply

Editors not wanting to do their damn job.

That's what a lot people said once the movie was over during credits to walking out of my two screenings of Wakanda Forever. And I thought so too, it really was way too long and I was surprised by that. I thought the movie is average at best, it was ok, better than many of Phase 4 movies, (to me the only really good ones were Spider-Man No Way Home and Shang-Chi). If anything, out of all the recent MCU movies... Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness should have had that long lengthy runtime and that movie was less than 2 hours and that's without the credits. IMO, the Doctor Strange character needed way more screentime and 'character development' then he got in that sequel, after all it is a movie about "Doctor Strange" and about the "Multiverse"... Marvel Studios could have easily had anyone like a Johnny Depp or a Keanu Reeves or both as alternate Doctor Strange(s) as villains / heroes and maybe even more time to explore Stephen Strange's past about his sister Donna, there was so much more those so-called "creative writers" could have and should have done to improve that (apparently) rushed script as well, far too many dumb silly moments and a really daft foolish written character like America Chavez.... 😂

reply

Yeah, Wakanda Forever did not need to be that long. Originally Doctor Strange 2 was meant to be released before Spider-Man No Way Home, they quickly changed the script, would have been much better had they not rushed it and given that movie a generous run time of two hours and thirty or forty minutes. America Chavez comics never sold well and even this past year, the America Chavez merch and action figures didn't seem to sell at all, they're always on selves collecting dust.

I actually thought this was the second weakest of Phase 4 after Eternals.

I saw them all in the cinema and for me this and Eternals both really dragged and had poor pacing.

Thor and Doctor Strange I thought were fun and worth a watch but I agree the best two films from this phase were easily Spider-Man and Shang-Chi.

reply

If a movie is good 2:41 isn't long at all. Epic movies are usually around 3 hours.
