Why did Walt Thrombey commit...

suicide? I fell asleep during the first part of the show after Frozen II until things picked up. I just know he committed suicide and left everything to Marta Cabrera while the family fought over who got what assets which lead to exposing the amusing Captain America to be the suspect in the crime in the end. Of all this debacle, they used Marta's illegal status in the US as a pretense for this whole charade, ignoring the fact that she broke the law already but were willing to keep it secret if she did as she was told. Personally I don't mind illegals in the US but they shouldn't have absolute same rights as legal citizens until they've earned it via path to citizenship or whatnot for skipping the line.

SPOILERS...Marta thought she mixed up his medication and believed she gave him a lethal dose of morphine accidentally. He killed himself in order to cover for her, so she wouldn't get in trouble. However, Ransom/Hugh had previously switched the medication so Marta give him the right does of the medication and he would not have died, if he had waited, instead of killing himself.

That just sounds... so stupid. Why would he go through all that and commit actual suicide when he didn't die from the supposed medication mix? He could've cleared it up and everything would've been fine but instead actually killed himself just to cover her supposed mistake? Maybe he was suspicious that someone was trying to kill him and wanted to oust them? Heck, even Benoit Blanc at the end stated that Marta took care of Walt for so long that she knew by the weight of the medication which right one to give him so she didn't have to read the switched label medication at all.

Maybe I am missing something here but suicide just to cover one's mistake where it only affected Walt himself and no one else makes no sense. He also could've just given his assets and fortune to charity or other but nooo had to bring Marta into this shit of a mess by leaving it all to her and her alone where the family starts pointing fingers. The more I realize this the more I think the script was badly written.

The logic was that he had to do it before the drug kicked in because he'd be unconscious and not be able to carry out the act. By the time he would be sure it was lethal it would be too late. And she had the bottle right there so she 100% sure she had just giving him a lethal dose (I looked it up 100mg would not necessarily be fatal but it would be an overdose).

He was absolutely fed up with his unloving family of leeches and wanted them all cut off. He had gotten close to Marta and considered her the daughter or granddaughter he wished he had had.

Marta wasn't in the country illegally, her mother was.

It does seem they could tell the difference between death by drug overdose and death by slit throat

reply

First of all, Marta wasn't illegal. Her mother was. Thrombley said if she got mixed up in a crime, or a supposed crime, as a suspect it could come reveal her mothers illegal status. He cared for Marta and didnt want her mother to be sent away.

Second, he killed himself because he knew if it came out Marta that killed him, even accidentally, it could affect her inheritance. He already planned to give her everything. Slitting his throat wouldn't guarantee they wouldnt find anything out, but it would throw them off. And if Blanc hadn't gotten involved, nobody would have suspected anything. Did you miss that the other detectives were convinced it was suicide for a while? Blanc is the one who got them to realize it wasnt.

I just want to say, he wanted to leave it to Marta because he loved her more than his family who had committed a great deal of wrongs. Because of Richard cheating on his wife, Joni stealing money from him, Walt going behind his back to try and make his books into netflix series, and Ransom being such a lowlife with no job and an unwillingness to get one. He just didn't want any of them to have his money. Also I don't remember why Linda was ruled out by him though it may have been she was already a rich person in the real estate business so she didn't really need his money that bad.

reply

Uh yea, Marta wasn't illegal. Her mom was which assuming she hadn't commit any further more serious crimes during her stay in America, she could potentially avoid deportation via cancellation of removal.

OP admits he slept during the first part of the show and his description of the plot shows that he must have still been drowsy throughout, but he heard the RWNJ trigger-word "undocumented" and his febrile brain knew it must attack like a good MAGAT.
