Was this show necessary?

I haven't seen it, and I actually hear it's good, but isn't there enough Star Wars already? Can't everybody be satisfied with the occasional movie (which has turned into a yearly thing) and the occasional book? How long before the next TV series starts? How many more movies will there be?

reply

The movies have been garbage. This show was necessary to repair a badly sabotaged brand.

reply

But why bother repairing it? Let's just say that this new Star Wars movie is greatly admired by all who see it. It turns out to be the best of all time. Better than the original trilogy. It also grosses more than anything in the franchise ever. What will happen next? It will justify them making more sequels, prequels, etc., etc., and they will start churning out crap again. Maybe even worse than before. It's a vicious cycle.

reply

Well, the hope is since Rise of Skywalker will likely disappoint financially due to the fan boycott, and Kathleen Kennedy leaving in 2021 will end these "dark times" with Favreau's new guidance.

reply

The "fan boycott?" lol
What's next on your list of imaginary things, the Loch Ness Monster?

reply

Assholes like you said the same thing before "Solo" bombed and became the first SW movie to lose money.

reply

No.

reply

Yes.

But what is necessary?

To reiterate, yes. It is.

Star Wars is a big universe and most of the movies have focused on the Skywalker legacy, so this, the first ever live-action Star Wars series (which revolves around Mandalorians -- their origins and the time period this show is set in has never been fully explored in the films), is a very welcome addition. Unnecessary? To kewl detractors it is, but clearly the majority disagrees with said detractors. And no matter how many naysayers of modern Star Wars there are, the reality is there are many more that still want future Star Wars movies and shows, period.

So was it necessary? HELL YES!!!

reply

For people like me that loves star wars especially stuff connected to the OT, yes

reply

What is necessary? How do you define necessary? If you're talking about what you can hear, what you can see, what you can post and comment on, then necessary is simply electrical signals interpreted by your TV. 😳

The show is very different from the movies, except for the fact that it's set in the same world. We get to explore that world from the perspective of one man moving through it. We follow his exploits as he decides to rescue a child and go on the run. What role Baby Yoda plays in the future course of events we don't yet know, it may or may not be significant, but Mando isn't fighting to bring down an evil empire or save the whole galaxy. The fact that the stakes aren't so all consuming makes a different type of storytelling possible. And this show captures the look and feel of the original trilogy much better than any of the subsequent films, which is a big plus imo.

reply

Star Wars is pure entertainment. None of it was "necessary" in the first place.

reply

From the begging I couldn't help but see how there were few unique traits that the main character had to differentiate him from Boba Fett which continues to make me wonder why they didn't just make it about Boba Fett.
