Saw this film recently online, not what I was expecting...

I was expecting a film about an awkward middle class girl who wanted to fit in. Watching the film she isn't just awkward her little tics, vocal patterns and extreme lack of social ability seem more like a representation of an undiagnosed form of Autism.

Also her ''social class'' - the clothes they put her in, her extremely greasy hair and her teeth do not make her appear like a middle class character. The child looks like she was plucked from the Ozarks. She looks neglected.

What a terrible film. Not in terms of ''quality'' but it almost seems like the main character is meant to be this sad pathetic figure that we're supposed to cringe at and feel sorry for. She isn't relatable, she is tragic.

I think her main physical characteristic is not being comfortable with her body, something which a lot of middle school kids go through. Whether she looks like an average middle class kid or an Ozzark hillbilly, is besides the point. So in that respect, I thought she was incredibly relatable.

Yup
I’m a teacher and know kids exactly like her.
Smart phones shouldn’t be allowed in schools. They’re insidious distractions that only intensify social awkwardness

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a post from you where you didn’t come across as utterly despicable.

It was a terribly mean comment to make for sure. There are kids like this and the fact that someone came on here to cut them up is unbelievably cruel. They should be ashamed of themselves.

My teenage daughters said it was accurate.

Dude i havent ever watched the whole film but i thought the beginning was pretty well made. She seemed like a normal girl that age. I gotta finish the film to fully disagree with you but from what i saw she seemed like a nice character and i felt like it was a warm wholehearted film about that crazy time period between childhood and adulthood. She seemed a little awkward at times but who hasnt been a little weird especially during that age. i think its a huge over stretch to call her autistic. Everybody trying to classify people these days and make em think there is something wrong with em. idk i havent seen that whole movie but she didnt seem that autistic to me
