The only thing they could've improved was the horrible actors. The setting, monster faithfulness to the games (zombies slow but take many shots to die), and music were good to great and had your typical horror elements in it rather than: https://youtu.be/PXXoq3yr4eI HIYAA!! Kung Fu'in the zombies.

The PD scene where the flaming zombie is walking to that shitty "crush" song was very cringe worthy.
I liked it more than I though I would. I think many people are too harsh on this film.
As for comparisons to the old RE franchise...I'd probably lean in favor of Resident Evil (2002) as the better film, but in truth that is largely due to nostalgia.
I like the original RE movie. It was cheap and hasn’t held up well but it’s acceptable! I agree that this is better than the Milla Jovovich RE2 and onwards.
shareAll of the Milla films are fun if you keep your expectations set correctly, except perhaps for #3, which is just kind of a boring drag. A few years ago I went through every film in the series, had a lot of fun doing so, and eventually bought the set on Blu-Ray.

Things that are bigger crimes in this movie:
Chris hating on his younger sister, it was never set he was the older brother, he being loyal to Umbrella/Birkin.
Removing Ada from Leon side of the story, made him weak, useless, all his hero characteristics were removed to turn into a push over, somehow I'm kinda glad he wasn't casted as he looks in the games because the would would be bigger.
Jill a police woman, being crazy gun lunatic, she doesn't even know proper trigger discipline, despite looks, she was off character.
Claire, she seems Alice 2.0 with no powers, she knows a little too much for my taste, being the lead she didn't got any decent action scene.
Wesker was written pretty bad.
The things those characters did on Milla Jovovich movies at least were into character traits.
