Anyone else weirded out by the use of music in this?

Many times I felt that this movie was just a way for the director / whoever in charge to advertize his favorite songs. Starting off with the long opening credits being basically a full song, and then so many random songs were inserted in a lot of scenes, where in other movies there would just be a score, and this film was very excessive about it. It took me out of the moment many times.

Nope. The song choices were perfect.

And if you thought it was the director showing off, you're gonna LOATHE Baby Driver.

The first two had great music. This one didn't have a single good song until the credits.

I feel ya, playing Beastie Boys music when Quill left earth in the mid 80's and knew nothing of them was a little bit of a stretch but at least the first 2 movies soundtracks were awesome.

The Zune gave Quill and the Guardians access to more contemporary music

The Holiday Special also made it clear that the Guardians can visit earth whenever they want to. They just don't want to. Quill stays away for emotional reasons.

But this film also confirms that many characters in this galaxy are interested in earth culture, art and music (especially the High Evolutionary)

The music was awesome in the first one, so then they leaned into it too much. Showed here more than in 2 though

MCU films in general and GotG movies in particular love to put on old songs from decades ago that make viewers nostalgic and give the movies a retro touch.
It's been a part of their winning formula, commercially, so much that DC films decided to do it too(Nirvana in a Batman movie!).

But I think GotG vol 3 got it wrong this time.
Sure, start the movie off with a depressing Radiohead song, but why not one that is less overplayed than Creep?
Dog Days Are Over? Really? It's not old enough to make you nostalgic, and not some hidden gem. It's an overplayed former hipster favorite that become uncool and tiring when you could hear it everywhere
