Is it better than inception?

Watching this weekend... and yes, my closed caption will be on.
I really liked inception, but for some reason it never holds my attention when I try to re-watch it.

Nope, it isn't. I watched it a week back with subs. I found it very inconsistent. Was so excited but it turned out be mediocre. But it's just me, others will have different opinions.

It doesn't hold a candle to inception

@ace2 you need to come back and give your opinion now you've seen it.

Personally Inception is my favourite Nolan ahead of Tenet in turn ahead of his Dark Knights.

I mean, I like a film that gives me something to think about, but I don't want to have to think that hard! So for me Inception is a better balance, and has so many Wow moments - it's a struggle to think of many in Tenet.

I have to qualify this by saying I enjoy thinking/complicated movies. The process of understanding and analyzing a movie after viewing it is part of the fun for me. I don't mind how ludicrous the premise is, as long as plot holes are kept to a minimum, and the movie is consistent with the rules it establishes.

Funnily after watching Tenet, I realized that Inception is not complicated at all. You just have to accept the ending which you can take as ambiguous or signifying a deeper philosophical question. My main issues were: 1) it seemed that with his resources Saito had many easier options for achieving his goals, 2) I found Ariadne's recklessness made her a very unlikable character and 3) for some reason the tech they used to enter the shared dream was unconvincing to me. However it worked well as a complete self-contained story.

On the other hand, in Tenet, the relationship between the Protagonist and Neil was really touching. The moving backward did look cartoonish at points, and while you get more each time, admittedly the movie probably requires multiple viewings. I actually like the loud score and with close captioning on, the dialog didn't bother me. All to say -- I don't have a clear favorite. This has prompted me to re-watch Memento/The Prestige perhaps after that a favorite might emerge.

I think Inception is one of Nolan's best and a masterpiece. I don't think Tenet is close. Lots to admire but too flawed in my opinion.

I also prefer the cinematography of Wally Pfister from the older Nolan days, but he and Nolan have parted ways. I think starting from Interstellar it's been another cinematographer. Not bad-looking films at all, but something about Wally Pfister's use of color and balance looked more pleasing...dare I say, classical?

I like the special effects in Inception better.

reply

No, it's even worse than the already bad inception. The ONLY good thing about inception is that it had ELLEN Page in it, who, back then at least, was still hot and normal. As for ALL nolan's movies: pretentious drivel.

Inception was better... More immersive, more cinematic, better acting and more compelling themes...

But this was still worth seeing, imo
