So next season is gonna be set at the Overlook Hotel?

Going by the after credit scene with Jackie where she was saying shes going out west to where it all started with her family history, has to be foreshadowing the next season being about her and a research team at the Overlook Hotel. Why else would they have her say that?

reply

I don't think I'll be back next season, this one turned out to be a waste of time.

reply

Unless someone pays me, I wont be back either. It sucked big time.

reply

Agreed, too many plot holes in the show. At the end the kid is locked up again after being locked up previously for 27 years..Only J.J Abrams can create a cluster fuck like castle rock..this is going to be another "Lost"...good luck going down the rabbit hole..it will end with another 9 years wasted with more unanswered questions

reply

It will never last 9 seasons... Lost was unique and different at that particular time. This was just tedious.

reply

Wow, really? I freaking loved this show. After watching "The Haunting of Hill House" on Netflix, this was a breath of fresh air. So much better than that show... and people praise that show endlessly.

reply

Well, how can you be happy with the resolution, or rather the complete absence of one?

reply

It was resolved, in a sense. We now know who the kid is and where he came from. Also, who told you all good stories need a perfect resolution? Sometimes, the best stories leave you guessing.

And as a long time Stephen King fan with a deep interest in various religions and philosophies, I can tell you Stephen King has never written stories merely for entertainment. His stories are all loaded with deep philosophical/spiritual metaphors and allegories, Castle Rock perhaps more than any other. He's a very enlightened individual who has spent his entire career dropping hints and cookie crumbs for people. Unfortunately, this isn't something most people would have any appreciation for.

reply

Do we? Who is the Kid, and where did he come from?

reply

There was a whole episode about it. He's another Henry Deaver, from a different dimension/reality. Did you miss that entire episode? 🤔

reply

Yeah, no,he wasn't. Or at least that's certainly not a given, considering the ending.

Did you finish the season?

reply

Yes, and I don't even slightly understand your confusion. The show 100%, without the slightest doubt, confirmed he is Henry Deaver from another reality. Entire episode about it. We saw his life in the city, his girlfriend, him listening to his dad's tapes... This episode tied the entire show together. It also explained where little black Henry was for the 9 days he was missing.

White Henry even stared longingly at the grave of the dead infant that would have been him in this dimension, had the infant survived.

I binge-watched the entire show 2 days ago and every episode is still very fresh in my memory. "The kid" is Henry Deaver. No question.

reply

No, it was heavily implied that he was, in fact, the devil.

reply

In what way?

reply

When Henry Deaver and The Kid were in the woods, and The Kid's face turned demonic for a moment, that wasn't a hallucination. And that creepy smile The Kid had at the end looked as though it was Henry who was his prisoner, and not the other way around.

After all, if he *is* the devil, time doesn't exist to him, and one of the ways he gets his kicks is by driving people mad.

There were probably more hints, it's just been a while since I watched.

reply

But the little black Henry was a prisoner in the basement cage in the other dimension for the same amount of time, decades, and he never ages either. Not aging is a side effect of being in the wrong dimension.

"When Henry Deaver and The Kid were in the woods, and The Kid's face turned demonic for a moment, that wasn't a hallucination."
1,000 different possible explanations for this...

"And that creepy smile The Kid had at the end looked as though it was Henry who was his prisoner, and not the other way around."
Uh.. ok.

Do you really think the devil can be seriously wounded by an old woman stabbing him with a knife? Is the devil himself incapable of escaping from a man-made cage? Is his big plan to end the world to sit in a cage for decades toying with his captors psyche? If this guy's the devil, he's SERIOUSLY overrated. Makes no sense whatsoever.

reply

Whatever the case may be, all I am saying is that it really wasn't clear-cut who or what The Kid was. I remember the moment after that episode about him telling his story aired, a bunch of internet articles popped up saying we cannot trust that he is telling the truth - a sentiment expressed on this board at the time as well.

And I, for one, am not happy with a show that concocts a bunch of mysteries and then never resolves them, a la Lost - as I said before, just ONCE I would like for my mind to be blown by the conclusion!

You don't have to share my opinion.

reply

My only issue understanding your point of view is, we literally saw his life in the other dimension. We even saw him giving a presentation at a business meeting and going through his dead dad's belongings. Do you think that was him hallucinating or something?

reply

It could have been all made up.

A lot of people didn't take his word for it at the time.

And like I said, his creepy smile at the end kinda confirms it. No individual who was actually wrongfully imprisoned for so many years (and now apparently is going to be imprisoned indefinitely) would have acted that way.

reply

It's not "taking his word" when we actually saw it all. We don't need to trust his words, we saw it with our own eyes. If he just told the story I'd see your point... but he didn't. We watched it.

How is this hard to understand? I'm so confused.

reply

What do you mean we saw it all? That was just a dramatization of his story so that the viewers didn't have to listen to one long soliloquy.

But if that's enough evidence for you, then I don't really see how that matters. If you read this board, it wasn't enough for a lot of people, and neither was the ending.

reply

You should watch The Usual Suspects if you haven't yet, where what you see on screen is not at all necessarily what happened.

reply

Don't you feel silly about arguing now? 😊

reply

Why would I? I haven't watched the 2nd season yet. Feel free to spoil it for me cause I'm probably never gonna watch it.

reply

It was revealed in episode 7 that he is indeed the devil.

I would definitely recommend season 2 btw, it's been really worthwhile so far.

reply

Wow really? I am trying so hard to like this and I loved "The Haunting of Hill House". Just shows how different we all are. I too am a huge Stephen King fan. I am going to stick with it of course.

reply

I wonder if they are going to explore a different Stephen King setting each season (if it keeps getting renewed). So next is at the Overlook Hotel and a character from that season will be the lead in the following season.
