C'Mon, this is not even a guilty pleasure, it's just bad.

My husband is making me watch it.
This show is so damn lame.
Unbelievable situations.

It trying to be too cool for school.

reply

It used to be a good show watchable now it is so corny every show they have a new exotic very lame heist or something it went downhill quickly

reply

You choose the two best words to describe the direction of the show, corny and lame.

What makes it even more unbelievable to me is that Jay is running things.
Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but when did his character develop into what he is today.

Why did they make Darren's boyfriend and idiot?

reply

That's Deran.

reply

Your husband has better taste than you, thank him.

reply

LOL!

reply

The script seems pretty decent, give us some examples.

reply

I don't know where to begin baby.

For those wanting an example of unbelievable then the heist from Camp Pendleton. I grew up not far from a military installation and there is no way civilians would be allowed to wander off like the Cody's were. Considering the circumstances there would be no issue in terms of using deadly force to deal with the Cody's once in a warehouse. I knew of a real life situation where a civilian worker who had been employed on the base for decades wandered outside of a yellow line going from his work station to a break room. Not far but maybe just a foot outside the designated line. He was promptly pulled into a darkened room and placed literally under a bright light being questioned for 24 hours before being released. His family was not notified right away but was finally told he was being detained a few hours prior to his release. The next day he went back to his routine much wiser. The general deployment at such a base does not allow for perimeter guards to become isolated or cut off plus make decisions as to what is serious or not. Being near a major highway trying to take a piss near the fence would get you brought in for a day's worth of questioning. Animal Kingdom is pretty much a dirtbag fantasy and not much more.

reply

.... Dirtbag Fantasy and not much more.

Yep.

reply

Go to any show's chat room that has lasted more than a couple years and you'll find at least one thread like this, about how the show used to be good but now is trash.

reply

I'm day one.
Don't remember ever saying this show was ever good.
But could be wrong.

It has been recommended to me to not even try to watch the current season.

reply

Well, IMDb gives it a 8.2 rating, and Rotten Tomatoes gives it 8.6 so it seems your opinion is in the minority.

reply

Statistical bias. The only people who would watch it for more than a couple of episodes are those interested in crime dramas to start with. Most likely not a significant percentage of the population. The same could be said for other niche products such as religious themed shows or foreign based sports shows to name a couple.

reply

The Aussie movie it is based on is much better and was inspired by a true Australian crime family.

My problem with the TV show is it's too glamorized. These people live a very pampered life and seem to get away with way too much and too easily. You'd think you'd be trying to hide your ill gotten wealth not flaunt it. It's not like these people are the Mafia.

reply

That kind of demonstrated wealth would be reserved for the top level of the mafia. Street guys would have no such compound or toys. Like what was said above the credibility is seriously stretched on that show.

reply

They also lack the sophistication of the Mafia types. It is like they are low-rent crooks who plan and commit these technical heists and live beyond their means and the cops are too stupid to notice.

In the Australian film, they live in a regular suburban house and their heists are bank robberies and other more realistic types of crimes.
