Released during the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The Duffer Brothers may not have any intention to defame Russians but, in my opinion, it is still a "Strange Coincidence" to stream S4 during the war in Ukraine.

Russia were causing shit with their neighbours in the Eighties too, so it's a bit of a coincidence.

The more things change...

"Defame"? Interesting use of words.

reply

Maybe the correct phrase is "expose Russians".

Why do people think the Russians are suddenly being attacked now in the show because of what's currently going on in the real world? They've been an enemy in Stranger Things since Season 1 and before all this Russian/Ukraine crap. Season 2, Murray accused Eleven of being a Russian. Season 3, Russians were the main human villains. Season 1, I think stuff was just mentioned through dialogue. But this whole Russia = bad guys thing has ALWAYS been in the show. It didn't just randomly start in Season 4. Plus they had been working on Season 4 WAY before this stupid thing between Russia and Ukraine started. People need to get it out of their heads that the film making process can be done in a finger snap and that they start filming and editing a week or two before it releases. It takes months to almost a year or two to film stuff and edited it. But Season 3 using the Russians as the main human villains debunks all this crap that Season 4 is tying into what's going on in the real world and taking advantage of it to create more anti-Russia crap. Also, people should whip out a history book. The U.S. and Russia were at war/were enemies in the 80's. So the show is trying to keep things historically accurate. And doesn't everyone want movies and TV shows to be more realistic? Well, there ya go. The creators are throwing this realism everyone demands into the show. The most Stranger Things is doing is some "interesting enough..." type of scenario. Everyone trying to connect the show with current real world stuff is looking too deep into things. Unless we are talking PC/woke crap, which the show has skyrocketed in since Season 1. But there is no connection between Season 4 and the current crap going on between Russia and Ukraine in the real world. The show is just continuing stuff that has always been there.

Verbose.

Exactly. Season 1, Eleven accidentally broke through to the Upside Down while being made to telepathically spy on a Russian target, and she saw a Demogorgon. The mid-80s was Cold War Cental. Have people not seen Red Dawn? Rocky 4? Spies Like Us?

The Russians were literally the Big Bads invading America is S3. S4 shit has nothing to do with the crap going on with Ukraine.

reply

I'm guessing you weren't alive during The Cold War.

reply

You misunderstood me guys, I didn't say the scenario of the show was intentionally against Russia.

I meant, it is a funny thing to see a show that depicts battles with the Russians while there are actual battles occurring at the current time.

I know the cold war is a part of the 80s. And I know the government of the Soviet Union did terrible crimes either against its people or against other nations. Even the prison camps were much worse than the ones portrayed in the show.

In general, I don't like historical drama, but I adore HBO (Chernobyl) miniseries which expose the incompetence and stupidity of the Soviet regime.

The Cold War began in the 50s, before you were even a sperm.

And you rely on Wikipedia as a source. You understand that their entries are unedited and not checked for facts, like a real Encyclopedia, right?

Of course you don’t.

reply

To be fair, the U.S.S.R. was the target, not Russia.

The russians saw the previous 3 seasons and figured "fuck it, the ussr was pretty cool, let's go back to that".
