The Show’s Music

Just started watching this. It’s interesting, so far; but it took me a few minutes, and some reading here, to realize that it’s set in around 1984. I recognized an obscure Jefferson Airplane song playing in the diner where Eleven stole food, and that was cool, and was also from the previous decade. Hearing Ted Nugent was cool. Hearing The Clash was cool. The problem is that the 80s was one of the worst decades for popular music in recorded history. If I never hear Icycle Works, or Wham, or Flock of Seagulls, or Pere Ubu again, it will be too soon.

Song for song, I'll take pop music of the 80s over any decade after it. No contest. I love the period soundtrack.

reply

I agree with your statement completely. While watching the show, the soundtrack is like a character all its own.

the seventies and sxities..wonderful.....music great..Jefferson Airolane..

reply

60s and 70s are of course brilliant decades for music.

reply

:) Yeah, I agree, though I like the Seagulls, and invidually, Kim Carners "Bette Davis Eyes", Yaz's stuff, and around the time of the show, Animations's "Obsessions", Debbie Gibson and Enya, but otherwise....yech, even the big stars (Prince hurts my EARS..they're purple like him, but it ain't outta roya;ty lol!)

TED NUGENT in THIS age? wow..(as in the current Florida murder defense..)

I like the simple retro electronic instrumental score also, though it is less interesting in season 2.

Metallica's "The Four Horsemen" was playing in Billy's room

You have bad taste in music. The 80s had the best music of ANY generation.

reply

The 80's rocked. I was there.

I love the electro-synth music for the theme. It reminds me of almost every John Carpenter movie I have ever seen. On that note...it's time for me to re-watch "Big Trouble in Little China" again for about the millionth time.
