Disney princess sequels: the next frontier

This is Disney’s first attempt at a big budget, theater released Disney princess sequel. And why not? Frozen is one of the biggest Disney princess movies of all time, and did feature two princesses, instead of one.

But I think the bigger issue here is the finite number of Disney princesses that you can have. You can’t have 50 Disney princesses; it cheapens each one. But Disney princesses are cash cows too. So expect to see potentially even more Frozen sequels, as well as sequels to other princesses. I’ve always been curious to see more high quality productions like this anyways. What do you all think?

reply

I disagree, dont think there's any limit on the number of princesses Disney can foist on the world.

To be honest I think Frozen II will be one of the highest grossing films of all time when it debuts in theaters. As you know Frozen was one movie nobody expected to become a huge hit but if it wasn't for the song Let It Go and the character Olaf Frozen would not have become huge at the theater. So with Frozen II Disney is expecting the same thing and when a princess is the leading lady you know that little girls will see the movie. With the Frozen movie I think Disney had plans to make a trilogy of films and Frozen II is the second film and not counting the short films Frozen Fever and Olaf's Frozen Adventure Frozen has become a huge success for Disney. And Olaf has become one of the most popular characters just like Iago from Aladdin was and Olaf was even featured as a balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. So with Frozen II gonna be in theaters Disney is not gonna rest on it's laurels till it's released successfully

You're thinking of Tangled. Frozen was hyped up to the point of insanity. They tried everything to make it success. They're doing the same now.

reply

Tangled was better.

Disney lacks any originality these days and it's not just the sequels. I hate the whole princess franchise. Not every "fairytale" movie has to be about princesses, the actual The Snow Queen story by Andersen is a great example.

reply

the next frontier for Disney is LGBTQ+ princesses. But even though they're woke, they know who pays their bills.

reply

I think we are still years away from that. But did you guys see an Aladdin sequel in the works? But a live action, so I guess it’s not quite the same thing. We are looking at animated here.

reply

They could make a movie about a prince or a future king for all the boys growing up, but man bad or something.

Only Rey in Star Wars is bigger.

Every pre-teen girl who came to my door on Halloween was some damned kind of Disney princess. Originality is dead.
