Prepare for disappointment.

Nothing is as it was 25 years ago. You won't get that feeling back. Even just the habits of watching media, and all the other mechanisms that surround this, will make for a different experience. Prepare for disappointment.

That said, as time marches on, as we age, we become familiar with disappointment. Disappointment doesn't mean a bad experience. It will be exciting to see the New Twin Peaks, whatever her form. We'll minimize the disappointing feelings, and make ourselves glad.

My shoulder is here to cry on.

I just want the weirdness of the last twenty minutes of "Beyond Life and Death" to be Season Three's norm.

reply

I'll be just as happy if it makes some sense, and we don't get Rabbits: The Showtime Series.

reply

I also think it will be a big disappointment. I'm afraid Frost and Lynch are mainly just doing it for the money.

reply

Yeah that really seems like something Lynch would do... This is in no way for the money this is a passion project... does this ensure that it will be any good... of course not... but please stop making random comments to get attention...

reply

Bugger off!

reply

Oh my... one of the internet tough guys (or girls)... instead of just saying 'bugger off' why don't you explain to me why Lynch a 70 year old man would do this just for the money? I believe he is pretty well off and there are much easier ways for Lynch to make money than spending a couple of years writing and directing 18 new Twin Peaks episodes...

reply

Well you said I was making random comments to get attention. Sorry! 😀

Anyway, I have written in another post that I had to EAT MY WORDS after watching those first 4 wonderful episodes. I thought I would be disappointed, but I wasn't. He proved me wrong, so hats off to him.

reply

Fair enough...

reply

yup

Just getting that feeling back isn't really the point. This isn't meant to be a retread; it's picking up these stories after a very long time. I've been writing a bit about this lately. To return to this after so many years and after the original has so grown in stature is, for those involved, very brave. They aren't just competing with the wide array of excellent tv they inspired, they're also competing with their own legends. I have no doubt they'll come up with something very special. I just hope that doesn't get in the way of how people react.

Considering how much "Twin Peaks" - style weirdness fills television today the only way Lynch and his crew could blow minds the way they did back in the spring of 1990 is if they set all of Season Three in The Black Lodge. And I don't know about you but I would be down with that.

reply

Judging by the cast list and the amount of episodes each person is listed as being in, this wouldn't surprise me at all.

reply

Either that or he's doing the craziest episode of "The Love Boat" ever.

reply

In any case, I hope we are proven wrong. I would be chuffed if Lynch can pull it off after all these years.

reply

I just hope the old man still has it in him. He no long need worry about network interference precluding him from letting his freak flag fly.

reply

Fingers crossed!

reply

Has he ever disappointed before? (And saying he would never revisit Twin Peaks doesn't count now lol).

reply

Well he nearly put me to sleep with Inland Empire. I liked the film in general, just not all of it. Too long and boring imo.

reply

I finally watched it all the way through a few days ago. Tried several times to watch it before but never managed it to the end. I am still no wiser and he didn't disappoint with it's 'wtf did I just watch?' lol.

reply

Well I watched it in the theatre and they were the longest 3 hours of my life. Still, I didn't give up and just sat there trying to pay attention. Finally it got more interesting towards the end but, like you say, I did think 'wtf did I just watch?'. lol

My favourite films of his are Mullholland Drive and Fire Walk With Me btw. I also liked the Elephant Man.

reply

I also did Mullholland Drive after Inland Empire. At least that was easier to follow and had this in it...

reply

Yeah I loved that scene. SILENCIO!

reply

One word: Dune. Though, I attribute that to the studio not knowing what the hell they were doing than being Lynch's fault.

reply

Dune had it's moments (and Kyle Maclachlan), but it wasn't his best film and the sfx sucked. I'm sure he could do a much better job nowadays.

reply

we have all already been disappointing before by Twin Peaks, the middle part!! because back then people were forced to reveal killers early, they didn't know what serialized TV was only episodic. so season 2 we all were disappointing from the start but it brought as back at the end

reply

Since Lynch is writing and directing many (all?) of the new episodes I hope it's not that self indulgent garbage he's been prone to give us lately. I've grown weary of Lynch lazily piecing together nonsensical scenes that go nowhere because he knows morons desperate to appear clever will say it's AAAAMMMMAAAZZZZZZZING and eagerly slurp his balls.

reply

Much of what was presented here for the first two shows made more sense than Inland Empire...that's for sure. Maybe haters should watch it again to understand it more. The second watch is more satisfying.

reply

I wouldn't consider myself a 'hater' of IE, just that I thought that the Polish chunk was just way too long. Funnily enough I DID watch it twice, now that I remember, in a movie theatre, just to see if I could make sense of that bit...to no avail. lol

Oh and I agree, the first episodes of Season 3 are making more sense than IE, and it can only get better, considering it's going to be 18 episodes or so. I'm definitely enjoying the ride. lol

reply

pankoeken - I think those nonsensical scenes are going somewhere in Season 3, you just have to bear with it. Four episodes in and so far so good, I say. There are some of those scenes (not as bad as Inland Empire's middle part though), but there are other classic old school Twin Peak scenes that are pure gold. I surely laughed out loud a few times.

reply

I laughed out loud quite a few times, especially in episode 4.

reply

I'm going to rewatch the HELLO!!! scene for the mere pleasure of it! lol

Actually I'll probably rewatch the 4 episodes entirely.

reply

Episode 4 is so worth a rewatch.
