Great film, terrible title.

There was no war, a skirmish at the beginning and a prison movie at the end. Then some helicopters flew over and the avalanche won.

Should have been called Ape Escape.

This isn’t a joke, there was no war in the movie.

I agree, I avoided seeing this film for a year because it sounded like it would be the weakest film in the trilogy and a lame ripoff of the already awful Battle for the Planet of the Apes.

It was definitely more of a prison break movie, Great Escape with apes. There was no "war".

reply

Battle for the Planet of the Apes suffered from having such a low budget but the story itself was pretty good.

I'd quite like to have seen this as a high budget remake / reimagining of that film!

reply

I avoided this film for the same reasons. I thought it was going to be more like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, with a bunch of ridiculous action scenes and more battle monkeys doing battle in scenarios ripped right out of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

I can say that this film definitely was misnamed because it was a heck of a lot better than I thought it had any right to be.

The film itself was definitely 10X better than what I expected to get from the title and premise. I assumed they were going to dumb down the franchise into some idiotic summer action movie where Apes drive tanks, throw grenades, etc., and overthrow the White House while Woody Harrelson does his usual goofball shtick and mugs the screen every time he's on camera playing an army general. Something like this and this:

Boy, did I get it wrong!

reply

i wonder why they called the movie *War* for the planet of the apes, since there was no *War* in the movie?

reply

It was a war considering nearly the entirety of both humankind and apes were staging a fight amongst each other. The title fits imo.

reply

I love the title of this movie. In fact, the 2 greatest movie titles ever was this and Taste the Blood of Dracula

reply

Taste the Blood of Dracula does sound great at least.

reply

I agree, I avoided seeing the film for a year because of the title. It sounded like a dumbed down remake of Battle for the Planet of the Apes

reply

the obvious answer is they are not reusing titles, and "battle" was already taken
