But now it feels like it's just a vehicle for whoever is writing it to send their PC message... Why must everything be about politics and diversity these days? Can there be a scene that is more than just an analogy to how "women are strong" and how "interracial couples are good" and all of that crap? Even the main plot is a simple 1:1 analogy to the war on terror and how bombing civilian targets creates more terrorists.

There were still some interesting scenes but the whole plot feels like it's just Naomi going to the lion's den and finding a way out. I felt like I was watching a soap opera sometimes. Sad to see good shows devolve into virtue signaling political crap.

I see from your low post count you'ere fairly new , but surely you noticed you're not the first "conservative" to express this sentiment? your not the second either

You assume and project a lot, not even worth addressing because you're clearly not replying to what I said but to what you imagine I think. I don't have problem with women or poc on the screen as long as it's done properly, which it almost never is these days. Watch for example the first Predator and how Arnold's and Dillon's handshake has survived as a meme to this very day and you will see an anti-racism message done properly if that's your thing. Because they were not trying or at least it doesn't look like it.

Writers are so worried about signaling that they're PC that they prioritize that over the plot. That was my critique, not whatever you are imagining.

Also, Naiomi following her son around like an emotional woman , then getting captured , then getting marooned , and waiting for the big brave white man to come to her rescue isnt really showing a "strong independant woman" imo.

I agree there was too much naiomi in this series and all the bits she was in were boring , wasnt really worth watching after ep4

WTF are these retards coming in here complaining about her in Season 5?

yes , conservatives and repuiblicans are the same thing,
as are the white supremacists - they are all "right wing"

Thats not to say all conservatives / republican's are white supremacists , that would be a little unfair , just a small minority , which appears to have an unusually large representation on this site's politics page

A lot of conservatives had no issue with T1 and T2, the Alien franchise, Night of the Livinh Dead, etc. I think the problem is when it is forced rather than natural. The strong women and diversity isn't as bad here as it is in other woke shows, but the lgbtq+++ is very forced. It works for the drummer character but the female lgbtq pastor?

I read the book this season is based on, and I have to say that reading about everything Naomi did was a lot more interesting that watching it. Amos and Clarissa's road to Baltimore and then to the island with the rich people was so much more involved than what was shown. Alex and Bobbi had more going on that just sitting in the Razorback.

I still loved Season 5, but I think it could have been better. I don't think they needed to spend quite as much time on Naomi, and I wish they had found ways to better explain to the audience what she was doing and how brilliant she really was. The show actually changes a few aspects of her story (in regards to Philip), and I think that actually made her seem weaker than in the book.

Again, I still really loved this season, but I didn't feel it was executed as well as it could have been. There's actually a ton of things going on behind the scenes that the audience as very little knowledge of. I'm hoping they are saving it for Season 6 in one of those ways that it all makes sense in the end.

For the record, it's not about "girl power" or "diversity." It's about people. If they happen to be women, fine. If they happen to be interracial, fine. If they happen to be gay, fine. If they happen to be polyamoris (is that the right word?), fine. It's just about people.

I think if we were watching the season all at once, then the uneven pacing would not stand out so much. Since it is broken up into weekly episodes, it stands out more that you watched two or three episodes where only one small element of the plot advanced, and the rest was (for example) following Amos and Clarissa all over the Northeast and watching Naomi do silent and mysterious things. With a more traditional style of tv show, each episode would be its own mini-story that has internal rewards and payoffs, but I think with The Expanse, each season is a whole unit and the individual episodes are more like parts of the whole.

I really like Naomi as a character; as I mentioned in another thread, The Expanse is one of the few current shows where I feel like the female characters are relatable to me as a woman. Naomi is very smart, but, her primary concerns are with her relationships: Holden and Philip, and the crew of the Rocinante. But, yeah, her arc this season was a bit dull, with seemingly a lot of it spent in the spaceship trying to do the mysterious thing. Also, although I liked that her history as a mother had always been playing into her choices (and the actress mentioned that she had been told early on that she had a son who would be relevant later, and so some of her acting was reflecting the character's awareness of that), Philip was introduced so late in the series that I can't really get invested in her relationship with him. He seems like a destined redshirt, IMHO.

Eh, this is a global story not a regional one about 'murican astronauts who chew tobacco in space. If you were okay with Season one being diverse and not so whitey-tighty I don't see how you could be so annoyed with the Naomi storyline.

I watched the first 5 seasons for the first time this past month. Speaking as someone who was frequently bored throughout the first season and found myself questioning all the acclaim this series got, I eventually got hooked within the first few episodes of season 2 and found the series to deliver an unprecedented streak of near perfection and greatness for 4 seasons in a row. I now seriously consider The Expanse to be one of my all-time favorite shows and in contention for the greatest televisions series I've ever seen.
