Naomi Nagata - Yaaaaaaawn

I don't know what it is, she is just not a very interesting/engaging character in season 5. I'm almost tempted to fast forward through her scenes. So boring. I feel like she needs the main cast to interact with.

reply

Her romance with Holden is the oddest thing I've ever seen. Zero chemistry.

reply

Agreed. It does seem very forced.

reply

Is she supposed to look like an alien? 7ft tall, long tentacle limbs, huge head?

reply

The entire fifth season seemed to revolve around her.

You start the season with millions of dead people on Earth and i'm supposed to give a shit if Naomi patches things up with her garbage mass murderer of a kid?

Things should have been on a grand scale, seeing Earth and Mars react to what the belters were doing. Instead i get to see Naomi go in and out of a room for 15 times, all while the same message is playing over and over.

Or am i supposed to care if she reunites with her sleepwalking-through-scenes boyfriend?

reply

Yeah. It was a very disappointing season for sure. Seemed like a lot of filler. Hopefully they make up for it with the next season and we see less of Naomi and perhaps, oh I don't know, some of the 1300+ other systems that would be infinitely more interesting. Or war with the Belters.

reply

I don't have a lot of hope for things to get better ... there is a trajectory here, to use astrogation terms :-(

I agree completely. Apparently the entire earth is collapsing and do we see that? No we episode after episode of Naomi's circular discussion with her kid and baby daddy.

reply

> Apparently the entire earth is collapsing

This is a good point. Even today if something like that happened it would be like a nuclear war and the whole global population would be in shambles - all of the systems we need to stay alive. Hard to imagine what that would be like in 300 years, especially knowing humans are not managing Earth any better then than we are today.

reply

Very good point. The show focuses on the belters and the Martians and so on, but we viewers are Earthlings! If Earth gets destroyed, my main concern is how the Earthlings are coping!

reply

The Expanse started out as science fiction ... pretty good too ... it has not moved into the cartoonish genre. Very poorly thought out after S3.

reply

Lol. I get what you mean, that's exactly what I felt during that season.

reply

I agree ... a lot of critical, but good points here. Season 5 mostly was pretty bad. They fell into the trap of making everything two dimensional and about a super villain instead of anything interesting, new or ground-breaking.

reply

The primary failure of season 5 is that the show needs Chrisjen Avasarala and Fred Johnson. Those two characters and their storylines are what gives the show its epic scale. The crew of the Rosinate are what gives the show its personal/individual touch.

In season five they stupidly killed off Johnson and for all intents and purposes sidelines Avasarala.

reply

Wasnt Bobby just flying around around in that little speedboat doing exactly nothing all season with Captain left-under-a-cloud ?

reply

yeah I think they were in that thing for 8 episodes.. and most of that was after they jettison'ed the engine...

I am bummed. I used to love this show.

reply

The pernicious thing is that in the aftershow show, they made such a big deal about any appearance of Bobby, or Alex to kind of make up for how bad the episodes were. It's like they want to tell everything what to think, and also create public opinion ... as if it is not slanted by being part of the show. It's getting so annoying realizing how much effort there is to brainwash viewers over a TV show ... just think about what the media does to brainwash us about what a great show the USA is.
