*spoiler* so I just watched the finale

I'm so glad that Mai won and that her and hippy guy were the final 2, because I'd have been happy to see either of them win.

I was desperate for the asshole with the giant beard to get eliminated first out of the final 3 so that I could enjoy the final challenge with 2 likeable players.

I'm surprised the final 2 didn't make some sort of deal, if I was in the final 2 and actually liked my opponent I'd probably try and propose an agreement. so that the winner gives the runner-up a million bucks and we both walk away millionaires. or at least the winner gets 4 million and gives the remainder of $560k to the runner-up.

I like to think that Mai threw a few bucks hippy guy's way and they both got to change their lives.

so many of the contestants were so hateable that I really think that what gripped me most wasn't rooting for my favourites but just really really not wanting certain people to win. I cheered out loud more often when assholes got the boot than when one of the few good ones progressed.

I hated it and loved it all at the same time and will watch the next series I'm sure

I think they arranged it for mei to have the best chance to win.

The button thing was stupid and easily fixable.

Underwhelming finale.

reply

Button thing was just stupid.

reply

I think whoever went first had the best chance and the other 2 didn't want to have to pick it.

It's all chance in the end of the day

reply

I'm pretty sure they wrote down which button was the red one, before they sat down. They had a lot of checks and balances. It was pretty cool watching behind the scenes on the special.

reply

I thought about it too. Arrangement for money so that each would have some. But then I remembered how people are greedy morally bankrupt asholes. Winner would simply not commit to give away money once it would be in their pockets. They knew it and didn't even think about it.

They are not friends. They are just random people who met each other few days ago.

And made no mistake - Mai is as horrible and two face as all of them. Hippy guy probably was really the most chill and nice of them. Mai was fake as hell. Like one contestant said: "You can wear many faces but eventually your true self will come out".

She pretended to be nice momma and cried a lot. But her true bitchy face came when she gave that "elimination box" to that nice dude, saying: "My dear friend Roland... People would think that it wouldn't be possibly be me. I love the guy. But also I have to save myself first.

Just like that she kicked out the guy who was her friend. She eliminated him because he trusted her. And then she blatantly lied when 3 of them came to their rest place and bearded dude asked her who she gave box to. And she didnt want to confess she ratted her friend. So she lied that she gave it to some woman.

That Mai is fake as hell. And two face. At least some others didnt pretend to not be bitchy.

And hippy finalist guy actually said he couldnt give his last box to bearded guy because they were friends. So he gave it to red hair woman. Mai could give it to anyone but kicked out person who trusted her the most.

reply

yeah I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the winner screwed the runner up in an agreement considering the kind of people they all are.

Mai isn't much better than the rest, I agree, but I liked her because she was the only one to stand up to Ashley and when she did all those dirtbags turned on her. I think by the time the box game came along the numbers were so few that it was totally every man for themselves, I think if my friend took me out at that point I'd have understood. if I really liked them though I'd throw them some money after I won if I didn't have an agreement with the runner up and took the whole cake

reply

According to an interview with the Daily Mail, as the winner of Squid Game: The Challenge, “Whelan said that contracts signed by the participants forbid them from giving any winnings to other contestants.”

They were actually forbidden to do so.

reply

I figured... Maybe they can fo something later in secret.

Same with Survivor. They are not allowed to make deals.

reply

that makes sense, if they weren't explicitly banned then they'd all be undermining the game making fake little deals when there's still hundreds of players left.

still though, surely once that money is in your account it's yours to spend as you please and if you wanted to quietly kick some cheddar hippy guy's way somewhere down the line it probably wouldn't raise many eyebrows. it would be almost impossible to make an agreement beforehand though since they're always being watched and listened to.

either way if I was Mai and I really liked hippy guy and the "friend" that I gave the box to I'd do my best to quietly throw some dollars their way after things died down, even if just to clear my conscience and enable me to truly enjoy my remaining few millions

reply

Why would the last two agreed to share money if they didn't need the other to win? Makes no fucking sense.

reply

wow calm down

try and think a little bit and maybe it will make some sense, if you don't want to make it all the way to the final 2 and then walk away with $0.00

reply

I still don't see the logic on Why would anyone agree to split the prize . Because you like the other person? Have you not learned anything watching this?

reply

insurance.

doesn't matter to me anyway whether you understand or not, I don't come here to explain basic concepts to planks of wood so bye

reply

Insurance for what?

You acting as if you post brilliant ideas cracks me up.

reply

not brilliant, just simple to understand whether you agree with them or not.

unless of course you're some loser who only ever bothers posting to argue with people or complain about stuff.

insurance for what? lol I won't waste my time trying to explain further to some argumentative little contrarian who would swear blind that the sun is cold if someone said differently

reply

Don't get so angry if people call your stupid ideas stupid.
Talk to your husband if you expect someone to only agree with you.

reply

is this the highlight of your day?

It wouldn't surprise me at all if there were contract rules forbidding agreements to share the loot, since such agreements would detract from the players' desperation.

Notice how Trey and his mom never discussed how they'd "both win" if either got the loot, even though that's the obvious outcome.

Britain's "Golden Balls" actually permits and even encourages contestants to lie to each other about whether they'll share the prize money. I strongly suspect that the contestants must agree to permit such deception in Golden Balls and on this show.

Otherwise, any agreement to share the winnings would be legally binding and enforceable. But if Mai had promised Phil(? the hippy guy) to split the winnings, all the suspense of the final game would be lost.

BTW, for those who might not know, an oral promise is enforceable just like a written promise, as long as the other person gives up something in reliance on the promise (like agreeing to throw the game or try less hard to win).

In any case, a spoken promise made on camera and recorded is "written" as far as the law is concerned.

reply

Yep. The evidence would all be on camera. No getting out of it.

reply

I read that she is still waiting to get paid.

Signed, million man.

reply

Netflix probably has up to a year to pay the winnings.

reply

I think the show had to air first.

Signed, million man.

reply

True, the show has to air to avoid giving away the game

But Netflix is slimy as fuck in general, especially to its employees, and reality stars are most definitely considered employees, not the talent (like actual actors), basically unpaid interns

They can't get away with NEVER paying her; that'd open them up to punitive damages that START at triple the award (i.e., $14million).

But I'd guess they're watching Mai VERY closely for ANY sign of contract breach. Did she cheat in any way? Did she violate show rules in ways they haven't yet detected? Did she tell ANYONE other than her husband that she won?

Doesn't matter though. In my opinion, Phill and Sam are by now undoubtedly swamped with work thanks to the publicity alone, and Mai is likely seen as a mastermind of human nature back at Homeland Security.

The show, at least as edited, made them all out to be heroes. Same w/ TJ and, to a lesser extent, Trey.
