Does every movie and tv series have to have a female warrior lead?
I mean, isn't it cliche at this point?

Got to show us all that women can do anything a man can do. Only better. Including physical stuff like fighting.
I wonder if she spends a lot of her time putting down the men, and they just stand there and take it. "Durrrrrr, OK lady."
Where does it show this in the TV series?
shareI did make an assumption that as the lead, she would be the best. Maybe not at at the start, but she will be pretty quickly.
Of course I haven't seen it, yet. It's a fairly safe assumption, though. That's kind of the point. You have a pretty good idea how this is going to go, even without seeing it or the source material. Because these days, it seems to be almost mandatory in movies and shows.
There isn't even any hint of this in the show so far. Where are you getting your ideas from?
shareWhat are they, two episodes in?

It's not "mandatory". You clearly don't keep up with modern TV.
shareKey word there was "almost".
Even characters like Thor and Indiana Jones tend to get outdone and put down by female characters in their own movies. But yes, it's not literally every single show or movie. You do kind of expect it at this point, though.
Not even almost.
>Even characters like Thor and Indiana Jones tend to get outdone and put down by female characters in their own movies. But yes, it's not literally every single show or movie. You do kind of expect it at this point, though.
I said TV, not movies.
But there's much more to modern media than Indiana Jones and Thor. Who cares about that shit.
And those are called examples.
And I was talking about tv and movies.
A lot of people care about those Disney IPs, actually. The mcu was very popular until recently. What went wrong?
Even in action shows I've seen: Warrior, Into the Badlands, Vikings, TWD - it's not true.
shareIsn't there a shield maiden who's the best in Vikings?
shareThere are shield maidens. They're not written as "the best"
shareThe best shield maiden isn't also the best on the battlefield? Did she beat the best guy yet?
shareWhat? Vikings doesn't "rank" its warriors as such. There are shield maidens, but none of them are written as being better than all the men.
shareLol. For fuck sake, of course there isn't some kind of ranking system. There are other ways to establish that. They didn't have a woman beat the guy who is generally understood to be the best in the combat arts?
shareIt'd been years since I watched it. The women did sometimes beat some guys, sometimes named characters. Sometimes they got beaten and killed. But at no point did the show ever write them as being better than all the men as you implied in your point:
"Got to show us all that women can do anything a man can do. Only better. Including physical stuff like fighting."
That's not how Vikings writes them at all.
I did not say they are writing them like ALL the women are better at it than ALL the men or anything similar.
I did not watch the entire run of the show, but I remember a popular female character who seemed to have the reputation as being the best.
She would've just been popular.
But no, not how the show was.
Also, I'm talking about very recent history you know.
You're bringing up examples of shows that were begun around a decade ago, except for Warrior.
Altered Carbon, House of the Dragon, Reacher, Peacemaker, One Piece, The Peripheral, The Terminal List (I assume, given it's part of the dad thriller genre), Gangs of London, The Witcher (for all of its accusations of wokism - Geralt is still the toughest dude in it)
shareYou're including the Witcher? Yeah, those wild wokism accusations. Another show I don't watch regularly because there are a lot of options these days. I know a lot of people aren't really happy because he's practically been reduced to a side character in his own show and the level of badassness he possessed in the books isn't really there in the Netflix show.
"Typical Netflix" is what I hear the most about that show.
I'm going to get to watching House soon, though. It'll be interesting to see if it lives up to what you're saying.

Not really.
It's other weird writing decisions and plot jankiness. But again, Geralt is pretty much the toughest fighter - unless you count Vilgefortz at the point in the show - who is also a man. It's not due to "a woman outshining him".
>I'm going to get to watching House soon, though. It'll be interesting to see if it lives up to what you're saying.
Just so you know, House of the Dragons was highly successful. Shogun looks like it massively succeeded too.
yeah, I'm not even saying it's going to be a bad show. Some of these more female centric shows are fine. I liked the first Wonder Woman movie, for example.
I just think it's funny how often we are getting these baddass women who put all the men in their place characters. It's usually done in such a heavy handed way, too. Like that's not enough, they have to make the men look goofy at times.
You seem pretty reasonable, though. I don't watch a lot of TV anymore, so it might not be as bad there.
Episode 3 shows Toranaga and Mariko briefly fighting off Christian samurai during their flight from Oaska castle.
The book never depicts Toranaga fighting, that is what he had his men for. Mariko is never depicted fighting either, even though she had been trained to do so by her father.
Source material nothing!!!
Heh… but what a cliche post up in this mofo. 😌 Made for this place that cries o WoKe boogeyWoman 24/7.
What you say is true tho? In that case, this is a so-called cliche that… DUH… deeply hurts thee boiflakes all over this site. In closing, cope on y’all
Politics aside, it's kind of amusing that this is now an action genre cliche. Meanwhile in the real world we don't even let women fight men in combat sports, not even in fencing, where no real damage is done (unless something goes very wrong).
Anyone who jokes about it or criticizes because it's getting a little ridiculous being accused of being a baby or a snowflake is kind of funny too. They can't even make a Thor or Indiana Jones movie without the ladies constantly outdoing the men and putting them in their place.
This might even be a good show. Fantasy is fine once in a while. LOL. What's funny is how just about everything in the genre has to be this way. A man the most badass fighter in the land? How sexist!
"Meanwhile in the real world we don't even let women fight men in combat sports"
Oh but we do!
All men have to do now is to claim they are a woman and boom, there you go.
Look at the dude breaking skulls in MMA.
Look at the dude swimming X-times faster with ease than the women on the team.
Look at weightlifting.
It's everywhere and getting more and more.
I should have chosen my words more carefully to make sure I'm clear. We don't let women compete in the men's leagues.
shareI think we would "let them", because it would be hard to justify not to considering it seems acceptable the other way around.
The problem is they COULDN'T. Average hobby weightlifters (men) can easily compete in professional women weightlifting - the other way around it would never work for reasons very obvious to both of us I reckon.
Imagine female soccer players being thrown into men's teams. Same leagues or even (especially) on the national teams. God I'd pay money to see that shit show! xD
It's part of the DEI woke requirement.
shareYeah, this is getting a bit ridiculous. Hopefully the show is still good though.
shareHmm, what did I miss?
I didn't see that wonder woman. And if you mean the assassin I wasn't that impressed.
not sure why this thread even exists because after watching the first 3 episodes theres no female warrior protagonist, there is a scene where Mariko helps her group fight off an ambush using a naginata, which is in line with historical accounts of onna-musha, and she's not even the main focus. y'all right wingers fragile, don't worry, male supremacy isn't being challenged here, in fact she gets told several times to remain in the house and not try to aspire to be anything outside of the house, which should make you all very happy
