What happened to the big push for black representation at the Oscars this year?
The last few years it was a major theme for the show. Very few black Oscars this year. I guess Will Smith kind of shut that all down.

shareYeah the irony is Will Smith was one of the ones pushing for more black representation and now his slap has pushed it back.

The attention of those who behind this push drifted over to subjects like Popeye's latest spicy chicken sandwich, and what's going on over at Love&Hip Hop: Boca Raton these days
They tried but realized there weren’t enough good black actors this year.
They risked being ridiculed nominating the Native American chick from the Scorsese movie knowing she wouldn’t win and they didn’t want to push it too far.
That said, I was shocked American Fiction didn’t win best picture and Wright win Best Actor just to push DEI.
The Native American chick has won several awards for that role, where's the risk of being ridiculed?
shareI thought she was one of the favourites to win the award and it was a good performance by her. I'm not getting the idea of being ridiculed either. They almost all expected her to win hence Emma Stone directing more attention to her in her acceptance speech.
shareYeah but just for the DEI checklist.
shareI was impressed of Lily Gladstones acting, she filled her role very much out. But her nomination as leading actress was imo a stretch. Yes, she was the main at the beginning and the end of the movie, but the main part was only carried by Leo and also de Niro. Maybe this is for Hollywood enough to qualify her only as main actress, but no thanks. Emma Stone on the other hand was just brilliant in Poor Things.
shareWhy would Will smith shut that down?
Why would they equate Will smith being badly behaved with no longer caring about race equality ?
Because if one black man is badly behaved they all are ?
Its not a logical conclusion.
They may as well ban people with big ears from attending / winning
... or people with a career in non-gangsta rap.
