Actors are hired to play a role written by somebody else, not for their creative input. The actors aren't on the creative side. The writers and directors are.

Actually, many actors offer insights and impromptu lines based on the "feeling" they get about the character they are immersing themselves in.

Like in Empire Strikes Back, the line "I know" spoken by Han to Leia... That was improvised by Harrison Ford and replaced "I love you too" from the script.

I want to add more... I did a short film which was a parody of the "hard boiled cop" genre. In one scene, the cop manages to clip a drug dealer shooting at him, and send him to the ground.

The cop walks over the drug dealer on the ground, who shouts "I have kids!" Then the cop shoots him in the head.

I hadn't written a second line for that scene. The actor who I chose to portray the cop decided to improvise, so before he shot the drug dealer, the actor responded "I hate kids" and then shoots.

BEST LINE in the whole short, and I didn't even write it.

That's actually a really cool story. :)

Thanks!

If you're interested, here's the short: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=708FPTv44Mc

I made it like 13 years ago. It was only uploaded in March because it had been on a different Youtube account of mine and I wanted it on this one instead.

How fun it must have been to make that! I really liked the camera work a lot, that was great. Check out this short clip on video editing, I think it could make stuff like this even better! :)

Oh yeah it was a lot of fun. That's me getting tossed into the trunk of my car in the opening title montage (and I'm also the cop with the coffee). I made it for Channel 101, which was started by Dan Harmon (Community, Rick & Morty, Kung Fu Panda). Episode 2 was planned but never done since I didn't get picked up, and his first name was going to be revealed as "Rock."

Thanks for the feedback on the camera work, that's what I ended up being the happiest with overall.

I'll check out that video when I get home tonight, looks like it'll have good pointers.

This film is just fan-fiction. I'm actually interested to know what George Lucas had in mind for the character. Anything would be better than what we got.

Oddly enough, Lucas' plans started almost exactly how this movie started.... This link has story info too, not just concept art.

They should have started Ep 7 this way.

Lucas had Luke in exile reluctant to rejoin the fight.

So true
