It'll be interesting to see how Abrams tries to fix this

He setup some interesting character questions in TFA. When Rian Johnson took over, he said fuck it, none of that shit is important. And I think Johnson is a good director but a bad writer. I mean Looper made no sense either. So it will be interesting to see where Abrams takes this next. I'll bet my bottom dollar he didn't expect Johnson to make some of the choices he made, especially with regards to Luke and Snoke.

There has not been a single good Star Wars movie since Revenge of the Sith. I think the franchise is now beyond repair no matter what Jar Jar Abrams does.

reply

Revenge of the Sith was terrible.

reply

Revenge of the Sith was great. Everything after Disney took over is terrible.

reply

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. But to me you undercut your own argument with your defense of that movie. The prequels were glossy shit. All three of them. Bland, sterile, poorly written, acted, directed...

reply

Yeah no doubt!
They are ok movies but nothing great.

reply

ROTS is shit for the birds.

reply

ROTS was a decent SW movie. It wasn't a great movie, but a decent SW movie. Whereas the garbage we got lately is just pure money grabbing enterprise.

reply

ROTS was as decent as shit can be decent.

reply

Prequel haters are the reason why the franchise is so fucked up lately.
Prequels were decent enough, at least they had a proper story and plotlines that made sense and linked perfectly to the OT.

reply

The only thing proper about them is that they properly earned their hate for being awful

reply

I would guess that he'll just try finding a new version of the Ewoks and bascially re-do "Return." :-) After all, Abrams is "The Recycler." :-)

reply

I think that Johnson does have a "fuck it" attitude towards "Star Wars." That's where all the jokes, awkward and otherwise, were injected into the movie. Now, since I don't take these new movies seriously anyway, that did make the movie kind of fun in a perverse way.

Yeah I would love to hear what JJ actually thinks of what Johnson did.

JJ: Hey Rian good luck with the next movie! I tried really hard set up some pretty interesting stuff. There's a lot of questions and buzz going around about who these new characters are. Can't wait to see where you go with it! That cliffhanger with Luke holding the light saber! What do you think he is going to say?

RJ: Oh yeah, for sure. Actually I was thinking he wouldn't say anything maybe just throw it over his shoulder. Like eh whatever.

JJ: Umm yeah I guess you could spin that. What about Snoke where do you think he is from?

RJ: Hmmm.. I'm probably going to kill him off. That will be soo unexpected. Also I'm thinking of showing some scenes with fake funny looking birds and fish people on Luke's island. Also wouldn't it be cool to see Luke milk some alien creature and drink it?

JJ: Okay, cool I guess. What kind of major battles are you going to set up. I know with TFA I really didn't have a good spot for an intense epic space battle like Endor. What are your thoughts there?

RJ: Oh i got this great idea! Snokes ship is actually like 100 times bigger than all the other space cruisers and the rebels are going to be running away from it the whole movie. Then I've got this wicked cool idea about a hyperspace bullet!

JJ: Wow yeah I really didn't expect anything like that.

RJ: I know everybody is going to be so confused and wowed by this movie. Everything is going to be unexpected.. a real thrill ride!

JJ: Okay cool good luck looking forward to seeing it! I can't wait for this meeting with Colin to see how he's going to tie it all up. Oh shoot Kathleen is calling me I gotta go.

reply

Man, I almost choked on my sandwich reading the running from the ship the whole movie line. Imagining JJ with this really puzzled, slightly concerned look on his face.

reply

Surely the production company had a say in where the main plot was going.

reply

Yeah, Johnson is following Kathleen Kennedy’s plan. This is all her.

reply

This film was much better than TFA, so Im not sure Abrams is the man to fix anything.

reply

TLJ took SW in interesting and unexpected directions. Abrams will have a big task on his hands to wrap everything up in Episode 9, kind of like Nolan wrapping up the Batman saga in The Dark Knight Rises. But hopefully Ep9 will be better than TDKR.

reply

I can't tell you how disappointed I am he's returning to do IX. Jar Jar Abrams has a way of diluting an IP to its lowest common denominator so it will appeal to the largest crowd. He sucks everything out that makes it special and turns it into a generic action flick.

reply

I agree. But unfortunately that's what most of the people want - some action scenes while they eat their popcorn. Reality shows have conditioned them to not care about stories, plot lines or other "confusing shit".
