Colin Farrel Unrecognizable

I knew he was in it, and kept waiting for him to show up.
I couldn't believe he was the Penguin afterwards.
Kudo's to the makeup team.

reply

I had no idea it was him until the credits rolled at the end.

reply

Exactly how I found out Tom Cruise was Les Grossman.

reply

I thought Grossman was pretty obviously Tom Cruise, but I'd never have known Farrell was the Penguin.

reply

I didn't know he was in the film until the credits rolled at the end - even then I had to look up his role on IMDb later. Agreed, unrecognisable.

reply

Exactly how I found out Tom Cruise was Les Grossman, blew my teenaged mind.

reply

Eh, if you knew Tom Cruise was in Tropic Thunder beforehand it's kinda obvious which was him. Here, even if you knew Colin Farrel was in The Batman he's still unrecognizable.

reply

I don't get why they would make him look that unrecognizable anyway.

reply

I can never understand why they spend big money on huge stars like Farrel and Cruise and then make them completely unrecognizable.

reply

Exactly, what was the point.

reply

. . .Wow.

Maybe because they're good at their craft?

Just an idea. . .

reply

Good at stuffing loads of makeup on an actor's face?

Is that your own makeup?

reply

Kudos. Not kudo’s.

reply

I feel shame :(

reply

It was meant to be helpful. I see a lot of stuff on this site. But yes, kudos to the makeup crew. I had to look at the credits for Farrell’s name too.

reply

I had a chuckle at the visual gag they do when he does the Penguin "walk".

reply

That was really great. They managed to work it in pretty organically too; it didn't feel forced.

reply

Yes!!

reply

Farrel gave a really good performance, too. When I first saw him, I didn't think he was really good, but I've seen him do some great work since then and my opinion has shifted.

reply

Usually under heavy makeup you can still make out some mannerisms of the actor. I haven't seen a huge amount of films with Farrell but I thought he did a brilliant job of not letting his mannerisms show through.

One reason to go for a name and not a mid50s unknown is that he's going to be in a spinoff tv series. You need a name star for that these days.
