Why the concerted effort to tank this film with negativity?

Is it just me or are their loads of PRICKS (especially here) trying hard to make sure folks don’t go out and see this amazing film? I mean, why so much aversion for a film you haven’t even seen??? I don’t get it! Is it because the director is French? I thought the French-hate-thing died when George Bush left office?

reply

not sure, i thought the movie was amazing. but i know PR departments hire trolls on a regular basis.

reply

Villeneuve is from Quebec, I think
Some of you might remember the Prometheus IMDB board, now that was chaos, troll hq

reply

ya i thought prometheus was fine. and the first half of covenent was ok too. but the last half was pure garbage.

reply

That’s why I’m confused. Trolls usually work to inflate ratings. These people are working the weird angle of destroying the film’s reputation to stagger box office sales...Like I said, weird!

reply

I think it's just easier to knock somebody down when they are hurting. In this case, the box office is pretty weak, certainly not the big hit they were hoping for. For me, I was excited at first because they went with Denis as the director. The first trailer was promising and then it seemed to go straight downhill from there. The overuse of the flying Spinners, they made them look silly. The bland acting of Gosling. The loud and long boring sequences and the almost 3 hour running time.

Still, BR 2049 might turn out almost exactly like the original; it might be much better after waiting 6+ months and then watching it again. That's the only way 1982's Blade Runner was any good.

Hope you're right

check their profiles, they made their accounts recently.

I hear you. I see it happen with so many well-reviewed films, but with Blade Runner 2049? The simple fact it was made is consider sacrilegious, so I’m not surprised by any of this.

Constructive criticism is always welcome, but from my perspective the majority of those writing negative things about films met with critical acclaim seem like miserable individuals. Best to ignore it but it’s especially difficult when u see negative post after negative post.

reply

So well said, my friend! They are all miserable souls!!!

Most of the trolls don't like change (CGI), one is just a miserable leftist. Could be SJWs don't like "evil women" in movies.

On IMDB you see fake reviews of 1* and 10*. The later may be paid, but I don't see where the former come from.

The IMDB rating for BR is 8.2 and BR49 is 8.6, even though most regard the original as better.

^This is possibly where the former come from ay?

There are a lot of the "I'm offended by everything!" people giving the movie crap. I'm afraid those people, as mentally ill as they are, are here to stay. They've been breeding for a few decades and they've created a very particular, hostile, unpleasant version of a human being.

reply

LMAO!!!

Yeah, they're here to stay, but I wish they'd crawl back into their caves and stay there.

reply

I've seen it and didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I don't see anyone telling you or anyone else not to go see it for themselves either. The film is visually as good as any sci-fi recently and that is worth the price alone, especially as a matinée. Unfortunately, I don't think it is worthy of the Blade Runner name. There are "trolls" i.e. dissenting opinions on every board in existence as long as there isn't heavy-handed censor-like moderation.

reply

I have absolutely no problem with anyone who watched the film, didn't like it, and came here to express their opinion; after all, that's what this board is for. If you read the posts, there are many who have no intention of watching the film, and have gone out of their way to come here and tell everyone to do the same, or they keep highlighting how much of a flop the film is because it hasn't done a gazillion at the box office.

reply

I would hope they're not being paid for it because they're not doing that great a job really, and besides their efforts are superfluous. This film will never be a rocket, but those who can will appreciate it for what it is.

reply

Looks like I'm going to have to sadly agree with you especially on the latter point :-(

I'm not trying to knock it down as much as call it like it is: GREAT visual ride, pretty small/simple plot. The FAKE reviews that are non-stop dropping the words "masterpiece", and "cinematic marvel" over and over and OVER again, need some realistic counter point. I wanted to love this and was looking forward to it, but it doesn't have a great plot - yes, I GOT it, it is very simple really, but should have NOT been so simple. I guess that's all modern brains can handle these days. Shame.

reply

I'm not trying to dog this movie either..I like some of it but I'm not going to praise it because it simply wasn't that good. I'm one of the biggest Mad Max 1 & 2 fans in the world but I could never praise MM 3 or 4. Heck, 34 years ago I wanted to love Return of the Jedi but it really was lackluster and I was a HUGE Star Wars fan at the time. Same goes for KOTCS.

I'll even say this, you can make a boring Sci-Fi movie-as long as it's got that certain..something(2001, Gattaca, Children of Men).

In the end, I give Denis a very good mark for his efforts. He had the most difficult of jobs to do. Follow up to a beloved Sci-Fi original. I encourage him to keep moving forward.

The director isn’t French, he’s French Canadian. There’s a difference.
