So basically Star Wars without the light sabres.

The canyon run certainly seemed inspired by Star Wars IV

Use The Force / Don’t think

The most star-wars thing of all is how they've made a remake of the original without calling it a remake. The plots of 'Top Gun' and 'Top Gun: Maverick' are basically interchangeable.

reply

Top Gun / Top Gun: Maverick / Star Wars / The Force Awakens

reply

Do... or do not. There is no think.

reply

I am your father.

reply

I liked when he hit the target without using the radar -- use the Force, Maverick.

reply

The Force will be with you…..always.

reply

You might say, they stayed on target :)

A veritable bullseye 🎯

reply

no. it is rip off of iron eagle series.

reply

The Death Star battle run was way before Iron Eagle.

reply

reply

I might do an Iron Eagles marathon, lol.

reply

yes iron eagles is good cheese film from 1980s lots of cheese at this time.

reply

80s cheese is great!

reply

I was a teenager in the early 80s, so have very fond memories of the movies from that period.

reply

you are lucky you get to grow up with so many great film! i was born after 80s so miss out but i can imagine how much good times you get from seeing all the best movies that ever come out!

my dvd and blue ray collection must be 95% percents 80s film. i cannot get enough. great time before woketards ruin film for everyone!

reply

My daughter is nearly 9 now and I have introduced her to many films from the 80s, along with several other eras - she'll be a bit of a film buff when she grows up.

reply

that is good to know it mean new generation will grow up knowing good film and not shit film.

my parent show me good film from 60s-80s growing up and it make me big fan of film. if my parent show me film like fast and and furious or butt pirates of the carribian then i woud not be fan of film. parents taste rub off on kid. it is important!

Yeah, I saw this movie last night and the first thing I was thinking was "Star Wars". The Death Star battle run in SW4: A New Hope is basically the same thing as this. Although, this might have been slightly more intense with the mountains involved and whatnot.

I thought it was a pretty solid movie but they took several ideas from other films and spliced'em together for this movie. I just don't think it brought anything new to the genre. Pretty standard stuff but still, it was entertaining and well shot. Some parts were a little cringe-worthy though.. best part of the movie definitely happens in the last 25 minutes or so.

Anyways, I'll give TG:M a 7.0 out of 10. But I am surprised this thing has earned over a billion dollars. In fact, I might have enjoyed the original a little more than this.

Well wasn't the OG Top Gun made bc Simpson or Bruckheimer saw an article in a mens magazine about top gun naval fighter pilots with cool looking photos and said 'its star wars but on earth!' (then hired a screenwriter to write a film based on that magazine article)

reply

Ha! I knew I was right, lol.

reply

Half Star Wars, half Midway.
