Ambitious or foolish?
Four sequels to a thirteen year old movie...God knows what will happen if no one goes to see this one.

shareBoth. It's kind of neat to see James Cameron try to establish a new sci-fi franchise. But it's a huge risk doing it more than a decade later.
shareI'm "take it or leave it" on the original, but I agree with you on both counts.
shareI hadn't thought of this as a deliberate attempt at franchise building but you're right. I really liked the first one though I missed it at the cinema so I'm looking forward to these on the big screen.
shareOnce he announced he was doing not one but four movie movies, I realized "oh he wants this to be his Star Wars".
shareSince all the other scifi franchises got murdered, we could use a new one.
sharei think it's ambitious and will do well.
Four sequels (and expensive ones at that) to a movie that did well financially but told a well-trodden story is quite ambitious, especially with the development time and technologies involved.
Cameron obviously has a story to tell in a world he wants us to experience, but it could all backfire on him in diminishing box-office returns. This story had better be interesting.
The first one is a masterpiece. Can’t wait to see more!
