Excited that Curtis is back but..

...damn another new timeline. This makes 3.The parts 4,5 and 6 timeline. The H20 and Resurrection timeline.and now this new one. What ever happened to good old fashioned continuity.

reply

That actually makes 4.

reply

Don't see a fourth.1 and 2 are constants in all timelines.3 is a separate movie. And Zombies films are remakes not new timelines.I only count 3.

reply

What about when he fought Freddy?

reply

You are mixing Michael Myers with Jason Vourhees

reply

Freddy's real name was Jason Vourhees? What Freddy just a nickname or something?

reply

What I meant was that Freddy never fought Michael Myers, there was never a Halloween/Nightmare on Elm Street cross over, Freddy only fought Jason from Friday the 13th. There are now only 3 timeliness for Halloween not 4, although 3 is plenty enough lol

reply

Ok. But what about 1&2? Then 3. 4-6. H20 and resurrection. I don't understand what the guy who played Austin Powers has to do with the series. Did he play the killer or boyfriend or something? I didn't think he did much before Saturday Night Live.

"And Zombies films are remakes not new timelines"

What are you implying there was time travel involved in any of the halloween films? We usually refer to them as continuities or differen't canons. I think of continuities as paths in a tree where some leaves share a common branch on the path to the root. Most continuities are complete restarts on a differen't tree but then you have weird sets like godzilla where the tree is just branching off the original 1954 gogzilla.

I'm still trying to catch up on the timelines.

reply

Yes I know what you mean but I'm still excited

I find this so funny. H20 could've been a worthy conclusion to the original timeline (not my personal favorite but still), but they went ahead with Resurrection and brought Michael back and [spoilers?] killed Laurie off. And now this one? They clearly said "fuck it!" and will again completely ignore what happened in the previous installments. Personally, I am GOOD with it. If H20 wasn't the answer, then I want a more proper continuation to the original timeline.

Whether this one will feel closer to the first two films, or go in a completely new direction, I am really looking forward to it. Not counting Zombie's movies, frankly for the longest time I wanted to see Michael on the big screen again. And it's even better now that the real Laurie will come back.

I am curious to see how this movie starts/picks up following halloween2 in 1981. and since they are skipping h20 and ressurection. maybe have Laurie wake up from a coma ? i dk

At least your getting a new continuity. In Alien we got a cloned riply which just killed it for me.

reply

I’m glad it’s happening. Apart from feeling ecstatic by the idea of Michael and Laurie meeting again in what’ll hopefully be one of the best films in the Halloween series, I think their storyline could use a stronger resolution. H20 was pretty solid, but I never felt it was the ultimate ending to the original timeline (Resurrection notwithstanding).

reply

Agreed. Tolerable enough in the X-Men franchise, or Star Trek, or LOST, where time travel is an element, so it makes sense (even though I personally by and large do not care for time travel as a plot device but that's a whole different thing).

It's easy enough for them to do it, and it's a horror franchise, so it's not like it's taken over-seriously anyway. But still. Annoying to have producers and directors of the interim films be all "Oh forget all the sequels, they don't really count." Like what were they just practice runs? It sucks that retconning timelines has become so popular and trendy. It's hard to be fully invested when you're wondering if they'll pull the rug out from you with another "never mind." Just hate that the industry is at such a point.

reply

You forgot the rob zombie Halloween.

reply

I think it has to do with them simply being to lazy to deal with what has come before. To me its perfectly acceptable to perhaps gloss over some things from the previous films you did not like or failed story wise. The motivations introduced for Michael Myers in Parts 5 and 6 for instance. But I do not think you should ignore the previous films. H20 could have easily acknowledged what came before without going into the less than stellar elements of the previous films. It kind of annoyed me when H20 came out because quite frankly while I liked seeing Curtis back i still think Part 4 was a better film than H20, and I am not sure there is a worse film in the series than Resurrection.

reply

4 and 5 are underrated. H2O should have just acknowledge them without being too specific. Rebooting the timeline for a 3rd time is frustrating.

reply

Yep and even though I enjoy the Halloween franchise my expectation for this film couldn't be lower.
