Does Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny mark the era of the 'flopbuster'?

I think these summer tentpoles are about to go through a seachange. These last 10-15 years of shite movies have been horrible for everybody(except for the dumbed down society in which we live).

A lot of poor to terrible films have been doing far better than they deserve to for quite some time. And recently they started to flop. This wasn't the first but perhaps the most emblematic recent flop.

reply

This happens every so often. I remember back in 2016, that summer had a lot of big budget flops or movies that underperformed.

reply

2016 yeah most of the (summer) movies underperformed and there's been no more movies for the franchises (Star Trek, Independence Day, Bourne, TMNT, Ghostbusters female cast)

It perhaps marked the moment that normies got wise to woke and said ‘enough’.

Now we need figures like Cruise and Nolan to show the way with more non-woke blockbusters, and hopefully we’ll start to see the return of the intelligent mid-budget thriller, the last of which I remember seeing in the cinema was Gone Girl 9 years ago.

I think the new Mission Impossible will be a success as the reviews appear to be very good. I think this summer will hopefully bring an Era of change to movies we have all wanted for the past 10-15 years.

I will only like the first Indy Jones film. Every subsequent sequel ranks as unwatchable for me.
