Ended the only way possible (spoilers)

A lot of people felt that the original Dexter should have ended with Deb killing him out of an act of love. Well the ultimate love is that of a child.

reply

This season took a little adjusting from colorful Miami to barren and practically black and white but this ended up fabulous. They redeemed themselves and then some for the last ending.

reply

No way. It was totally out of character for Dexter to kill Logan.

reply

Killing Logan was not out of character for Dexter, Dexter doesn't wanna kill innocent people, but he will if it means not getting caught, cause the first rule of the code is don't get caught.

He was never gonna let Doax go from the cabin in season 2, Doax was an innocent and he let Doax die and take the fall for being The Bay Harbor Butcher. He was fine with Laguerta dying so he wouldn't get caught. In his mind it still abides by the code killing an innocent if you do it so you wont get caught.

reply

It is out of character because he never killed any of those people. They just happened to die and he got lucky.

reply

And he never felt any guilt about it, they died because of his actions, and he was gonna try and kill Angela in the kitchen, he was looking at the knifes until Logan came in.

He even said it in his narration about Molly "She doesn't fit the code, but rule number 1 is don't get caught". So he was even considering killing Molly if she was on to him and gonna lead to him getting caught.

reply

Ok. Whatever. I still didn't like the ending.

reply

Hey thats fine, i wasn't too crazy about it either but him killing Logan didn't make me think "Hey Dexter would never do that" cause he's always honored the code, and killing an innocent is not out of the question if it means not getting caught. Plus this time around he has his son to also think about and wants to get back to.

reply

I did have the opposite reaction

reply

"but rule number 1 is don't get caught"

That's not what that means. It means don't get caught killing someone, not kill anyone to prevent yourself from getting caught.

All the rest ofbthe rules of the code are about not killing innocents, killing for a purpose, killing killers. Read the code, brag.

reply

Dexter always cared about saving his own ass by whatever means necessary.

reply

No, Dexter doesn’t kill people even if it risks getting caught.

Dr. Evelyn Vogel even confronts him about that in Season 8.

“ Dr. Evelyn Vogel : When Harry and I came up with the Code, he insisted that you only kill bad people, and *I* insisted that the first rule of the Code be, "Don't get caught," giving you a little wiggle room.

Dexter Morgan : Okay.

Dr. Evelyn Vogel : So my question is this: when your sister found out about who you were and what you were doing... why didn't you kill her?

Dexter Morgan : [shocked] What?

Dr. Evelyn Vogel : Not that I would ever advocate such a thing, but since Debra knew the truth about you, she's clearly a risk...”

He couldn’t bring himself to kill Doakes or Debra. He had less reason to kill Logan, especially since he had a good chance to walk free from these charges.

This was just bad writing.

reply

Is it? Dexter strongly contemplated killing Doakes and DID kill Liddy because he got too close to uncovering who Dex was. He was also going to frame LaGuerta for murder. He did violate the code a few times over the years when his freedom was in jeopardy. He also didn't kill Hannah despite the fact she killed in cold blood. Killing Logan, while I don't like or defend it, wasn't totally out of blue for him. He gets backed into the corner and he reacts.

I just don't know how to feel about this show anymore. It started as you cheering for a serial killer because he was a different kind of serial killer. He was a sick fuck who channeled it and you don't really have a problem with him doing it. But multiple times over the years he just tosses it out the window and killing Logan just isn't acceptable. Harrison put him down, but we all hated the kid about 90% of the season. He did a good thing, because his dad did a bad thing and was out of control, but Harrison was an unlikable prick most of the time. It's just so conflicting and contradictory.

reply

It was a stupid move he should have just knocked him unconscious

reply

LOL, and done what?

reply

Put him in the jail cell

reply

To get the death penalty? Boy, that sounds fun.

Dexter was out of control. He was like a rabid dog. Killing Logan was not acceptable, even screwed up little Harrison knew that. Shit, even Dex knew it. That's why he asked Harrison to put him down.

reply

Well i dont disagree with this...

reply

Dexter accepting his fate is logical. Harrison killing him is not. Yes, Dexter turning himself in and getting the death penalty would have been a better ending.

reply

In what way is that better?

Harrison was a troubled kid because of what had happened to him, but still has the wherewithal to know killing Logan is not ok and his dad had to be put down.

reply

Because H wants to be a better person than his father and killing him does not make him one.

reply

Rule #1

reply

I don't believe that you are a true Dexter fan. Who is reedemed?

reply

"I don't believe that you are a true Dexter fan."

What are you, 12?

reply

One thing for a kid to mercy kill a parent that is in anguish from say cancer... but this wad not love. Harrison picked up the gun because he was thinking of himself and his desire to stay and not leave Iron Lake.
Also the act of pushing your kid that already has mental issues to kill you is no act of love it was going to mess them up even more

reply

I got the impression it was Logan’s murder that pushed Harrison over the edge, not his desire for more time with Audrey

reply

Harrison could have stayed in Iron Lake without killing Dexter. He killed Dexter because he cared about Logan.

reply

Harrison was as much a psychopath as Dexter, remember he tried to kill his friend, he broke another kids arm. He didn't give a shit about Logan, that's not how a psychopath's mind works.

Hell, the chief created a real shit show when she let him go because it just set her up for murder charges given she was now out with Dexter dead and being unarmed but shot from a distance while facing the shooter. Not any chance of claiming he was trying to escape. Then she tried to wipe off the finger printers, but the cartridges inside the gun would have all had Harrison's finger prints on them and none of them would be her's or Dexters which would raise questions.

A fairly carefully crafted show for multiple season just jumped a shark into silly land for no apparent reason beyond they knew what they wanted the ending to be and decided to ignore everything in the last episode to get to the final scene they wanted regardless of believability.

reply

You need to get your eyes and ears checked, because Harrison was clearly troubled by what happened. He even says, and I am paraphrasing, "I thought you said you only killed good people?" He was not ok with what Dexter did, which is why he, you know....shot him.

reply

And you are ignoring that Dexter claims he loved someone for the first time, his son. If that was true he wouldn't have his son kill him. At the very least he would have done it himself, or turned himself in. Instead he has his son kill him which would only fuck his son up more than ever which according to the letter was the opposite of what he wanted for Harrison. Shitty writing all the way.

reply

Is that what people wanted? To see Dexter die? At the hands of his sister? Did most people hate Dexter? I can't even remember anymore. This show can just be so conflicting - and not in a good way -that I'm not even sure what it is they're trying to accomplish.

reply

If you wanted a good ending for the demise of Dexter, why couldn’t he meet up with a serial killer or trip on his plastic - why does it have to be a family member. This was a terrible ending. And why did this show with so much promise have to end.

reply

agree!!!!
