Luis Guzmán total miscast for Gomez Addams

Morticia and Gomez Addams are supposed to be a firey couple with a lot of passion. There's no way Catherine Zeta-Jones's level of beauty would settle for Luis Guzmán. It's just not working for me. All I see is his ugly sloppy ass betraying Carlito for Benny from the Bronx.

Everyone who said Johnny Depp should have been Gomez was spot on.

reply

naw he would have ruined the whole show for me and I am a Johnny Depp fan but this isnt his role. Gomez is supposed to be ugly and short in the source code cartoon that started it all. Hollywood bastardized his character like they always do but it is nice to see them step back to the source code. He is the best Gomez out of all of em. He is a rich fat short king that is ugly as a dog shit but has level 99 charisma to attract a beautiful tall skinny wife. This is the realest Gomez and personally the only one that actually stood out. all the pretty boy ones are forgettable

reply

Raul Julia was not forgettable in the least. In fact, he OWNED that role in the movie, and had immeasurable chemistry with Angelica Houston.

reply

Angelica Houston stole the show Raul was just there

reply

Blasphemy.

You're right I forgot the New Yorker. I have few memories of that from childhood. I grew up watching reruns of the 1964 TV series. I think I was more into the Munsters anyway.

Damn, I take everything back. Luis Guzmán is actually spot on perfect for the role looks-wise. Props to Guzman for knowing his level of beauty.

reply

Completely agree

Depp would ruin this show with his overacting and ugliness. He lost his hotess years ago and cant act. It would be caricature like he did in Fantastic Beasts.

reply

I still prefer the late, great Raul Julia.

reply

Haha! Or in Narcos, when he goes and yells "¡Un puto misil!". He's great for the role tho.

reply

Bunch of shitty opinions up in here

reply

He actually looks a lot like Gomez did in the original comics.

reply

Isn't that part of the appeal of a kooky family?

reply

Yes, I was so very wrong! It's definitely the Carlito thing. I can't get his betrayal out of my head.

reply

Yep. Such a downgrade. Raul Julia was so hot in that role. This was just distracting. Catherine Zeta-Jones was just to hot for him.

On the other note young Gomez was semi hot. And in real life it often happens and very possible that pretty man would end up being overweight and ugly in his fortieth. It was realistic. But still - show pretended that they were so in love with each other then showing ugly overweight Gomez and thin good lucking Catherine Zeta-Jones. Should have cast actor 45-50 years old that is still semi hot.

I can see why. I'm watching the show now, out of curiosity. I always saw Gomez played by men with kinda short, round, pleasant faces. The guy they picked looks like a bulldog. In terms of ugliness, he almost puts Danny Trejo to shame.

reply

I didn't get past the first episode. It's cute but I kept getting distracted. I will definitely give it another go.

I've seen 5 of them so far, and the story-telling actually isn't too bad, and the acting is well-done. Considering Tim Burton directed it, I can see traits of his style all over it. There are even a few funny parts. You also learn a lot about Wednesday's psyche, including what drives her to want to solve mysteries. And boy does that town have a lot of secrets!
