Only after the original.

Which makes me wonder. Would this movie work without the Predator tie-in?

I'm afraid if stripped off of the Predator license (make it simply a new original alien creature) the movie would feel a bit generic.

However, being a sequel of Predator franchise is also probably hurting the movie by:
1. Comparison to the original. Which compounded with nostalgia and the legendary Arnold of the 80s, to be honest no matter how good it turned out to be, nothing would win againts the first Predator movie.
2. The fact that various Predator sequels have been terrible for such a long time now, many people would dismiss this movie as a yet another Predator crap.

Yeah, I had my own share of complaints, but I can't see why anyone would have had such an issue. The movie could have worked without the tie-in, but then ppl would just accuse it of mimicry. I think the movie tackled an interesting idea that has always been in play: what were predator vs human fights like in other times, other places. I'm not sure I buy any of the criticisms I've seen other than the immersion-breaking animal CGI. But you're right, I think the name itself is influencing people's negative feedback in a number of ways.

It was a simple movie. Solid, effective. Not amazing or anything but it's good.

I haven't watched any of the sequels. I like the idea of it taking place centuries ago. I'll likely see this one.

I liked this movie. I also liked the last one, the Shane black one. I think I preferred the predator to this one. I wish it didn't flop, would have loved a sequel.

The 2018 one? I don't know if we watched the same movie, but in my opinion that movie sucked.

That was definitely the general consensus. I saw it in the cinema and loved it. I thought it was pretty fun and tried to do something different.

I can see that. P2 wasn't that good in retrospect. All the others were really bad.

P2 had a better concept and I just love "fucking voodoo magic" gang. But in terms of production values and even acting Prey is better.
However, this is a very low bar we are talking about. Prey is a solid B-movie but there is nothing spectacular.

This movie was surprisingly good and even the female empowerment was done without getting too obnoxious or nauseating.

I think it was on par with Predators, which is also a very good movie and IMO, better than the slightly overrated Predator 2.

Didn't like Amber M much in The Ice Road, but she did a great job here and the movie's pacing was pretty good. 7.5-8/10 for me.
