What was so bad about this film? I was fine with it but I didn't grow up on the old films cause I was 2 scared to even look at the covers. But I actually liked this version. Don't get me wrong the older ones were pretty cool. But can someone point out the flaws for me?
sharePeople are just anti-remake. That and it didn't have Robert Englund which made a lot of fanboys butthurt right off the bat. It's not a great movie imo, but it's still better than a majority of the sequels (only sequels I thought were any good were Dream Warriors & New Nightmare). One of my biggest issues was Rooney Mara, she was so dull in this she made me want to fall asleep.
shareThat's true it's a remake so gets compared to a beloved classic. The nostalgia many have for the original clouds judgement and makes this films existence an afront to their cherished memories. A lot of these classics are synonymous with their time period. It's no surprise that most F13 and NOES films outside of the 80s get's their share of hate. They're 80s franchises at heart.
Expanding upon this it's very telling that many people hate remakes of 70s-and-80s films released in the 00s-and-10s. Whilst the same people adore remakes from the 70s-and-80s of 50s films (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Fly, The Thing, The Blob)...it becomes very telling that it's the 80s time period many are in love with.
Rooney Mara looked bored and uninterested.
The original isn't amazing by today's standards, but Heather Langencamp's Nancy was a good character for the lead.
Outside the wallpaper scene, the new movie was alright. I just prefer a more proactive Nancy.

The original kinda implied it.. but this one has SO many just nasty moments illustrating this backstory. Also Fred's voice and everything about the new design was gross.
Why remake a movie no one really asked for?
Remakes, different versions of things can work like Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, but apart from the heavyweight of the movie name there usually isn't a good reason to remake.
This is one of those remakes that infuriates people by it's existence, like Total Recall or lady Ghostbusters.
