Is this just another police procedural dressed up in sci-fi?

Has anyone seen this yet? So few sci-fi-ish things on networks lately that actually live up to being sci-fi. I don't want to bother with another cop show since the format is beyond tired. A good mysterious sci-fi show would be nice but it seems the networks can't help themselves with the worn out formulas.

It's more of a drama/mystery/sci-fi. There are some light procedural elements but that aspect of the show seems like its (thankfully) going to be kept to a minimum. I honestly enjoyed it alot more than I thought I would. I'd recommended it if you like The X-Files and other shows in that vein.

NBC has had a few of these series on before. Sci-fi-based mysteries that go on and on like "Lost" did. They keep you watching because you are thinking that the mystery will be unraveled. But, too often, it's just dragged out.

I didn't find the first episode too compelling, so not sure about following this one.

It's a Fringe type show. Endless mysteries that will never have answers. Much like soon to return Manifest.

reply

I don't think that's fair to Fringe. That show actually gave answers and had a great resolution. So far, Debris seems a little too random in terms of what kind of powers the debris has and has too much touchy-feely melodrama.

reply

It's definitely not fair to Fringe. I just think Fringe falls into that category of show along side Lost and what not. Fringe is easily the best of this style of show.

reply

Fringe had the humor Debris is sorely lacking.

It's all well made but after two episodes I just don't care about any of it.

reply

The only part i've enjoyed so far is 10 seconds of a guy throwing a chair around.

It's been pretty dry so far, interesting SPX, but other than that.....

And I can't understand half of what the Brit Chick says. Thank goodness I DVR the shows and can hit playback.

I checked it out expecting to see exactly that but was surprised that i liked it.It's more character driven than a procedural. It reminded me of the X-files a bit.

reply

I also think that they are making an effort to establish at least a few characters with their background and motivation. I like it.

Definitely another show influenced by the success of X-Files.
