Were the Matrix trilogy some of the first fully Woke movies?

Wokeness has become mainstream nowadays, but Matrix trilogy was released in 1999-2003, 20 years ago.

Sure. Then which word do you suggest to name the current ideology/religion which is mainstream in modern left (even though I think it's quite close to Christian puritanism, which used to be assigned to the right) and includes last wave feminism, the so-called diversity and white demonization?

Concepts need words, otherwise you can't talk about them. You argue 'Woke' isn't a word. Fine. Then which is the word?

I guess you mean 'politically correct'.

That term means something with is 'correct' according to the dominant repressive political zeitgeist. It doesn't name a specific ideology/religion, and neither it's linked to one. What's politically correct now in a western country is different from what is or was politically correct in other places or other periods.

Interesting. What would be the name of this ideology/religion then? I don’t think there’s any called the Woke out there.

To be honest, I don't know. Most people understand what you're talking about when you say 'Wokeness', so it works, someway, but I think that's more of a temporary fix. No idea what term will be the final one.

I don't think so. Terms must be clear, and 'social justice' is a generic term with other meanings not related with Wokeness.

It's like 'liberal', and I mean the classic one that promotes both economical and social freedom. The terms comes from the root 'liber', which means 'free' in Latin. It wouldn't make sense to name the ideology 'Freedom', since that's a more generic term.

EDIT I don't understand why you deleted your comment. I don't agree with 'Social Justice' being the most likely final term, but it was a reasonable suggestion.

I was going to type social justice warrior, but then thought better if it. I guess that’s one definition. But to me it’s all virtue signaling anyway, doesn’t matter what side of the aisle you’re on.

I think the amount of virtue signaling only says it's a growing active new religion. Members compete to prove they're the "highest believer" and virtue signaling is the usual way to do that. I had a conversation about it a few days ago.

'Social Justice Warrior' doesn't seem a proper term to me. It's mocking and derogatory. Terms should be descriptive, not derogatory (unless they're intended to be insults). 'Wokeness' is still a bit derogatory (in my opinion), and that's why I think it'll be temporary. Right now it's the best we have, though.

There were some woke elements but it wasn't preachy about it...

Someway I agree. Even though you would expect it to be the wokest among the wokes when you look at the distribution of characters, it doesn't feel that way. At least, when you compare it to modern movies which (for some reason) feel way more preachy.

And to be honest, I can't pinpoint why.
