Man Florence Pugh was great in this episode

In the Black Widow movie she was the goofy little sister next to Natasha. Here we see her as being quite intimidating and imposing, while still having the kind of goofy side to her. You really believe that she is a deadly assassin in a way that we didn't really see in the movie(except for the introductory fight with Natasha maybe).

Anyway, she and Hailee Steinfeld were bouncing off each other in their scene together, it was a delight to watch. Pugh brought even more to her game here than she did in Black Widow,

Plus her ass looks amazing.

She is a Black Widow. It is the number one selection criterion

reply

Lol yeah thats true, if your ass don't look good in the suits you're gone.

But it is also clear as day Yelena won't fit into any government intelligence organizations. She doesn't exactly follow orders and exposed herself to a civilian. She is clearly very lonely and not good at handling it.

Acting like that she won't survive very long as a spy or assassin. Avengers on the other hand is probably made for her.

I thought the interplay was just fun to watch -- it hadn't occurred to me that she's lonely.

But that makes enormous sense considering that she JUST got her sister back and, less than a year later (from her point of view), has to cope with Natasha's death while still carving out a living for herself, free of the Red Room.

It's kind of a sad backstory now that you point it out. It also jives with how frantic she seemed upon learning she'd been dusted for five years. Her first priority was finding Natasha, who we know was dead by that point, and only just recently at that.

Also, after the "Black Widow" end credits, I'd been wondering how Val could possibly convince Yelena to kill her sister's best friend. And true to that issue, it's clear Yelena was testing Clint on that roof, not legitimately trying to kill him. From her conversation with Kate ("Kate Bishop"), seems like she's still trying to make her mind up.

reply

I thought she wanted to capture Clint for interrogation, to find out more about her sister's death. If she was testing him then she was really overly confident since Clint had on record defeated and I think captured Natasha, Yelena did not exactly win when she and Natasha fought. Her only advantage was to ambush Clint, also maybe Clint's age.

Either way she went way out of her mission parameters since she was supposed to kill Clint.

She was awful. The scenes with Halee felt like a SNL sketch

reply

She’s amazing, Florence Pugh is the future.

reply

She is hilarious. People love the character. She was more popular than Natasha from the get-go.

Her scenes in Ep 5 alone made all this wait and anticipation for Hawkeye definitely worth it. Looking forward to more screen presence in the MCU...and honestly these days, I'm not really excited for MCU stuff anymore.
