Ep 1 was everything I wanted and more

Am I just really high or did that opener kick ASS!
Opening scene and closing scene were epic! REVENGE and HOMECOMING.
Bitches conquering shit. I am here for it.
and then in between, we got caught up with so many different storylines and different locations, and using all different styles of storytelling.
Like we got SO much plot, but still had time for leisurely intimate scenes, comic scenes, awe-inspiring visuals, spectacle, character development moments, just every damn thing I could ever want, and MORE.

I watched it twice, all the way through. First time just to let it wash over me and scream at the screen and flap my hands like a silly fangirl.
Second time to study it and take notes.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

so much to love.
we're not worthy

Favorite moments:

1. Opening scene Arya's revenge. totally epic. I saw every moment coming, it was not a surprise but it was still so satisfying. get it girl.

2. Loved The marching army of Wights, the zombie giant! Such a short wordless scene but told a great deal of storytelling just from that one image.

3. Bran & Meera arrive at the wall. When word gets back to Jon & Sansa, won't Bran take precedence over both of them in the order of succession? He's the oldest surviving legitimate male offspring of Ned Stark. But he's a cripple and a child, so maybe the lords of the north will still prefer a grown man to be their king?

4. Sansa & Jon already butting heads. Saw that coming. Sansa actually had the better idea (rewarding the loyal) but she was stupid to contradict Jon in front of everyone. They are stronger as a unified front, they should not let underlings see them arguing. It's like mom and dad fighting in front of the kids.

5. Cersei and Jaime on the giant map. Basic expository scene that was a good summing up of where all the houses align.

6. Euron's ship is so fucking cool! All black ship with black sails and that amazing kraken on the prow. It's a work of art! Euron is going to get Cersei an engagement gift. What do you think: Dragon's head, or Tyrion's head?

7. The citadel is another amazing piece of scenery! The design of that chandelier- it's made of small mirrors that reflect the sunlight from the oculus into every dark corner of that vast library. Super cool, reminds me of something Da Vinci would have invented.
Why do the soup bowls at the citadel look just like the bedpans? Why does the soup at the citadel look just like the diarrhea? Why is the grandmaester so nonchalant about the Night's King and the coming winter? it's not really comparable to the end of human dynasties.

8. The way Tormund looks at Brienne. Tells Podrick he's a lucky man to have his ass beat by Brienne.

I agree on nearly everything but... I've never really liked the Euron Greyjoy story angle. In the books, he was a pretty big part of the story and he wasn't really in the show for the first five seasons, I was kind of hoping they'd leave him out. No such luck. I do like the actor they cast so maybe I'll end up liking his part more.

reply

I haven't read the books so I just base my views on the tv show version of the story.
I liked Euron's straightforwardness, he's just like 'hey lets murder people together!'
And his ship is so cool looking.

9. Arya and the soldiers. I actually loved this scene. Mostly we have been following the lives of noblemen and kings, big players on the chessboard, and this was a nice look at the lives of the pawns. They just want to live their lives, they want to help their families... I kept expecting them to try to rape Arya or something but they were so simple and decent and generous to a stranger.

10. The hound and Beric Dondarian. The hound has the sight now. And we know where the army of dead is at. The hound burying that father and child that he left to starve. Good scene. I kept expecting the corpses to resurrect while he was burying them.

11. Who is the mysterious prisoner in the Citadel? Did that arm have greyscale? Is it Mormont? Maybe that's a hospital ward, not a prison?

12. Dany's homecoming to dragonstone was epic and gorgeous. I don't really understand the strategy of stopping there instead pf going straight to Kings Landing, but it was an awesome scene.

reply

That was definitely Mormont's voice, and only Mormont would be asking about Daenerys in Oldtown. And yeah it seemed to be a hospital of sorts. Grayscale patients would be dangerous, for reasons we've already seen in this show, so that would explain the special cells of the type Mormont is in. Besides, it wouldn't really make sense for the maesters to be running an actual prison.

reply

For sure that was Jorah the Andle!

reply

I think Danny stops at Dragonstone because she was born there and it is the homelands of her ancestors.

reply

there was a majestic quality to her return.

reply

Yes, absolutely! She kneels down and touches the sand. Also, isn't this the first time she is actually in Westeros? Is Dragonstone in Westeros?

reply

Yes it's just off the coast but it's part of the 7 kingdoms.
I loved her tearing down the baratheon banner

reply

Yes! Loved when she tore down the banner. That was one of my favorite parts of the Battle of the Bastards-when the Bolton banner came down and the Stark banner was unfurled. So cool.

reply

I agree, it's a symbolic thing. But also I think it's useful for her to have a base established close to the mainland for logistical reasons, rather than her only support being far away across the sea. She can get set up there, fortify the place, plan her invasion and have a place to fall back on if things go bad.

reply

It's Ser Jorah.

And, gee, no, there's really no activity on this site, right?

reply

what do you mean? it's active enough on the things I watch.

reply

I was being ironic, Popcorn, and responding to all the bitching about there being "no activity on this site." The GOT section right now has activity up the wazoo.

reply

Ahh, yeah all that whining about the place being dead just annoys me. People expect others to entertain them. if someone thinks it's dead then just they should post more and wake it up.

Jorah Mormont was on the list of actors in this episode, so it couldn't have been anyone but him.

Was Jorah Mormont for sure.

I had captions on and the lines was prefeced with Jorah:

Yes you are high. Sadly lame episode.

*passes vape to illnagas*
you should try it. It makes you less grumpy.

reply

Did you just admit to vaping??

reply

yes??
so what??
it's legal here???

I loved it too. That opening was perfection. EVERYTHING a GoT fan could ask for with that opening. Those bastards deserved that and more. Also loved Arya telling those soldiers she was going to kill the queen and the laughter...and the way she smiled and laughed too...like it was ridiculous...but we and SHE know better.

Perfection! All of it!

reply

Was amazing, though, I was expecting more death. Yes, I know, we had the big mass murder in the opening, which was amazing. But I thought that we'd probably see one or two named characters snuff it. Here's to next week ;)

reply

I just watched the first episode. My favorite scenes are the revenge of aria(the poisoning scene was...so predictible) and the marching of the dead with the two giants😉

reply

Look again. Three giants.

reply

Absolutely. One in the foreground, two behemoths in the background.

The Devil is in the details; and in the advantages of a DVR.

reply

Really,i have a full HD,i think the scene was too short,i only saw three😉
