Nobel v astronaut

According to Google, 662 people have been to outer space, while 954 have won a Nobel Prize, making astronauts more elite and rare. Wonder how Sheldon would handle this in regards to Howard?

reply

As Sheldon put it. "They sent dogs to space." So it probably wouldn't phasehim.

reply

I believe the prize for economics is awarded by the Bank of Sweden, so technically it's not a Nobel Prize, so those numbers might need adjusting.

reply

Who even votes for the Nobel? It seems just as pozzed as the Oscars. Einstein was a fucking fraud who just used other people's insights, inventions, and discoveries if they didn't patent them, never sourced shit, and was wrong about almost everything.

reply

I'd respect both, but Howard's would impress me more.

reply

Astronauts have actually done something, while Nobels are handed out to people like Obama for no particular reason.

Nobel price has 5 committees, the following is from wikipedia:

Four of these committees (for prizes in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, and literature) are working bodies within their prize awarding institutions, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Karolinska Institute, and the Swedish Academy. These four Nobel Committees only propose laureates, while the final decision is taken in a larger assembly. This assembly is composed of the entire academies for the prizes in physics,[1] chemistry,[2] and literature,[3] as well as the 50 members of the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute for the prize in physiology or medicine.

So there is still some credibility.

But for peace price:

whereas the responsibility for the Peace Prize was given to the Norwegian Parliament,[4] specifically "a committee of five persons to be elected" by it.

The fifth Nobel Committee is the Norwegian Nobel Committee, responsible for the Nobel Peace Prize. This committee has a different status since it is both the working body and the deciding body for its prize.

In other words, it is decided by a bunch of politicians accustomed to taking bribes, I mean accepting political contributions, and trading favours.

So of course it has no credibility.

Modern math?

reply

Sheldon would only care about the ones awarded for physics.
