I think there aren't that many movie worthy stories, so they have to have different takes of the same stories.

Aging of the respective actors and desire/need for a contemporary setting.

Because they start out with actors who are too old. And they keep showing the origin story. And they keep focusing on the Joker.

Simple. Real 'Batman' has never been tried.

1.) They keep running into problems with making sequels and getting the same actors for each succeeding story.

2.) Lack of funds.

3.) Actors getting too old for the part or turning it down.

4.) Some new hot-shot appears on the block that doesn't want to build on what the "uncool, older crowd" built and wants to re-do Batman their own way.

5.) Lather, rinse, repeat.

One thing IS certain: BATMAN is basically the only DC character cash cow, that no matter how shitty the movie could be, it would still outgross any other DC character and WB thanks the maker for this..
