This movie is actually kinda messed up

I know, I know...its supposed to be a romantic comedy. But the whole notion of Barrymore's character having to repeat the same process every day, as well as her family, and not being able to retain any new knowledge is just sad. There's nothing beautiful or romantic about that. And due to the fact that her dad and brother continued to go along with fueling her pre organized cycle of amnesia was even more messed up. I mean, I get it, they cared for her. But her running into moments of confusion was inevitable. I mean, what happens if she watches television or uses the internet and notices the actual date? And what about when she gets older and wakes up one day only to realize that she's not young anymore? There are just so many complications that would eventually unfold along the way.

Those points are addressed in the movie.

This movie is sad. It's meant to be. But it's also full of fun and brightness. I think this movie is highly underated. Not just another Sandler comedy.

50 First Dates' Happy Ending Is Secretly Really Tragic

The classic rom-com 50 First Dates ended with Henry & Lucy staying together, despite this, the film still has a tragically sad ending.

It... is. But there was only so much you can do in such a situation. FWIW, she got live her life in a more "extended fashion", while still providing joy to those close to her.

I was kind of hoping she would get a "Hollywood cure", but, a brain injury is otherwise something that's difficult to get past otherwise. Plus, I'd have to admit, that would be cheesy, despite making my heart happy.

50 First Dates did not age well

I recently watched 50 First Dates starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Everybody told me that this was just another romantic comedy... but oh, how wrong they were.......

Sure it did, despite what some youtuber might have said.

This is such a weird video. Even before going into the whole amnesia stuff, just the first few minutes. He criticises the Adam Sandler character for trying to sleep with many women and dumping them like a main character doing bad things should not be possible in a movie - like only movies with boring flawless heroes should be allowed. While actually it's the starting point of adam sander's redemption arc turning from a player into a faithful and caring boyfriend.

Did no one pay attention? There’s a pivotal point when Lucy starts to show signs that she is still capable of forming long term memory, although deep seeded and subtle. It’s not a cure but they all find a way to work with that, using the morning video tape routine to help her fill in the blanks. They were prepared for the complications. I took the end scene with the Dad being there as one of them. He had to be there in case she did freak out being on a boat with “strangers”.

Did she eventually remember whipping out her tits for Letterman?

I always found this movie creepy and wrong. Even back then when it arrived.

She is sick and he basically exploits her. Yes, in some "timelines" she likes him. But then she wakes up and doesn't know who he is. And the thing is - people's relationship often depend on how they met and interact. You can stop and talk with someone and like them. You can walk past them and them see them in a week and they will talk to you and you will reject them. It all depends on the moment you had your Encounter.

So one day she likes him. Then they meet at different circumstances and she may not like him. But she wakes up and this stranger man informs her that she is married to him. And she doesn't now him, no matter what her self in video cassette will say. SHE does not know him.

So movie was very exploitative. It was like he was holding her in prison, like a stalker. She doesn't know she is sick. From her perspective she wakes up like a regular day and see tape where some ugly dude informs her she is his wife now and belong to him and must love him.
