Do you think the arachnids were evil for the sake of being evil?

I think that they wanted to wipe out the human race because they considered the human race a threat.

I think that they wanted to wipe out the human race because they considered the human race a threat.

Of course. And we wanted to wipe them out for the exact same reason.

I doubt they wanted to wipe out the human race, I doubt they even sent the asteroid to Earth.

If you pay attention at the beginning Klendathu is on the other side of the galaxy as Earth, the Milky Way Galaxy is over 100,000 light years in diameter, the chances of the bug plasma knocking an asteroid out of orbit and then the asteroid stays on the correct trajectory to hit the Earth is astronomically (no pun intended) small. Not to mention that the asteroid was not traveling at the speed of light so it would have taken millions of years to reach Earth anyways, also wasn’t the Bug Plasma just them releasing their spore so they could colonize nearby planets? More than likely a random asteroid hit Earth and the federation used it as an excuse to invade Klendathu.

I don’t think the bugs even knew what Earth was, all they knew when they saw the mobile infantry was “hey look over here, it’s food”

I love encountering people who get this movie. The entire war is a farce. The bugs aren't the villains. The humans, who literally dress like Nazis, are the villains. There's that throwaway line that the reporter says to the camera: "Some say that the bugs were provoked by the intrusion of humans into their natural habitat. That a live and let live policy is preferable to war with the bugs." Most viewers miss that line and don't realize that we are in actuality the bad guys in this movie.

Totally agree

Yes, the movie is made 100% like Nazi propaganda (or nowadays Russian propaganda). They just say whatever float their boat. Does the Archnids potentially attacked "first"? Very possible, as humans just build wild colonies like the one from the Mormons. It is like in old Western, when the First Countries are depicted as the bad guys, completly ignoring, that they basically just protecting their country and got militant after several screw overs.
Anyway, without knowing the Arachnid side, we are not able to see the propaganda straight away. But everything shown in the movie does not give us any information that the bugs are capable of reaching earth at all. If they can send an asteroid, why not also an invasion army? So the false flag theory to start a war is very likely. WW2 also started by Germany proclaiming Poland attacked them.

I am afraid of arachnids ;(

The oldest reason imaginable for war - overpopulation.

reply

Nah they are just being bugs and then humans turn up and probably start shooting at them and the bugs fight back.
