I can see why people despise this movie

I mean, you've got the whole "death of Kirk" thing going on, and I can see why even the concept of it would rub people up the wrong way, but then there is another death, too - the death of the Enterprise-D, as awesome as it is, also probably rubbed people the wrong way. That ship was even more iconic than the original Enterprise, but they rubbed it out as it was old and "not cinematic enough".

So yeah, lots of wrong turns taken in this movie, although it has great moments and I love the music in it.

how many times do you want to use the word 'rubbed' in one paragraph?

Three in all forms. If the question was rhetorical, then never mind..

Haha...😂

i dont remember the movie rubbing me. what a weird phrasing.

I didnt care too much about Kirk. In hindsight he could have had his own Spinoff though. As Shatner is way fitter than senile Patrick.

Killing of an Enterprise is pretty much a trope for a Trekmovie, so I was good. It did fit Deannas character arc. And the E was beautiful.

Afterall Generations was a pretty decent TNG movie, especially compared to Nemesis urgh.

Never heard the expression "rubbed me up the wrong way"?

Or do the younger generations have dirty, sex-filled minds these days?

reply

We all rub down here, Georgie!

😂😂😂

im an older generation with a dirty mind.

My wife loved it she despises Kirk and applauded when he died.

I would have loved to have seen the Bird of Prey attack the Enterprise and the Enterprise just slowly calmly turn around and blast the Bird of Prey out of orbit. Just as if the Bird of Prey was no more than an annoyance.

reply

I read one of the books once and they had Kirk's original Enterprise simply ram a bird of prey - which was smashed to pieces. Love to have seen that in one of the films.

My issue is it's freaking boring. It plays out like an extended TNG episode instead of a lush grand space opera that features two iconic sci-fi characters meeting for the first time.

reply

You just described every TNG movie. In fact, I'd never seen First Contact until it was on TV and thought it was an episode. I was about 15 minutes into it and realized there were no commercials just to figure out it was meant to be a movie.

I think that's why TNG didn't have the staying power in the theaters that TOS did. Not to mention that they went straight into the film series while the TV set wasn't even cold.
