Has ER become a forgotten TV show?

It was pretty big back in the day but it's never really brought up any more. And apart from a few notable exceptions (Clooney and Margulies) most of the cast haven't really done much since. It was most likely a case of it going on for too long (ER arguably, really went down in quality in 2001-2002), and there were too many medical show ripoffs.

I've never seen it, and probably never will. Forgotten without ever being remembered.

The first few seasons were really good but I don't know if it would still be as much fun to watch if other people in your social group weren't watching it at the same time.

It has failed the hardest test of all, the test of time. Soap operas age badly.

Incorrect on so many levels

If you filled a bowl of cocaine and stuck it next to a television set that was E.R.

At least the early years...

I think the show just ran way to long and overstayed it's welcome.

Apparently "ER" has had some success on HULU though:

So I guess that's good.

I tried re-watching but bailed after the 2nd season.

I can't imagine NBC paying $13 million dollars an episode:

That's an original article from 1998.

Wonder what it would cost today?

After Clooney and the rest of the cast bailed the program it just kind of meandered thereafter.

A hit still nonetheless, but with half the air and an empty balloon.

And there was no "Seinfeld" to keep it afloat.

An empty balloon becomes depressing at some point.

Also, the networks saw that weakness and counter programmed with ABC's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" (flash in the pan) and CBS's "CSI".

The latter ultimately became one of television's most successful stories.

Not forgotten - but surprisingly not as good as I remembered this former favourite. Some shows just don't age well and I lost interest partway through episode one.

Episode one is a bona fide classic. It was originally written as a screenplay by Michael Crichton in 1974.

It's strange that ER was one of the biggest shows on TV, produced a massive movie star, created by the guy who wrote Jurassic Park and produced by Spielberg and yet it's never really talked about. I'm rewatching the show and it holds up, hell the writing is far and away stronger than any medical drama that followed it. So why is this show forgotten?

Why hasn’t ER been rediscovered on streaming the way Friends has? It was arguably the best drama of the 90s (maybe tied with Homicide) and Seasons 1-6 (at least) are classics. Eriq La Salle? Noah Wyle? George Clooney? You can’t beat it.

I've never seen an episode, and probably never will. Some people just aren't interested.
