I wonder how "sampling" would actually work. When the security guard walked on T1000, it was the shoe that was actually sampled. This particular shoe could have been attached to anyone. But then it seems that he is "observing" the security card as he takes his shape... but if that's true, why does he need physical contact in the first place?
It is technology developed by an intelligence that is literally superhuman. It is thus beyond our ability to understand.

shareI think some kind of super-fast 360-degree laser scanner to determine 3D shape down to the micron and the colours required to copy a person and their appearance (skin, eyes, hair, clothes) would be more realistic. Then some kind of programming determines each piece of clothing to simulate based on appearance, texture, colour and reference to a visual library, etc.
