Still can't watch The Scene

Whenever the hobbling scene comes up, I will make an excuse to leave the room. Need to get more popcorn, or run to the bathroom to hide out until it's over. πŸ˜… I can't think of many scenes that effect me that way.

I heard the scene was supposed to be gorier, with an axe if I'm not mistaken. IMO, they sure didn't need it.

It wouldn't have been nearly as disturbing if she'd used an axe. We've all seen limbs lopped off in horror movies. There's have been more blood, of course, but the sight of the leg breaking and bending like that was new and shocking to most people outside of paramedics and trauma center workers.

reply

Yeah, in the book it was an ax

Only JOs read S King books.

Lotta JOs out there, padding the King wallet.

I first saw it in the theatre. I was still recovering from a broken/dislocated ankle. When that scene came up my date petted my ankle and β€œThere, there. It’s OK, you’re safe here.”

reply

πŸ˜…I can imagine! The sight of it alone causes me physical pain as well. *shudders*

reply

Yeah, in the book she chops his legs off with an axe, one by one, while he's awake and sober. Then she cauterizes the stumps with a blowtorch so he doesn't bleed out. HORRIFYING!

reply

Oh, wow, that’s interesting. I never knew it, never read the book. That scene is one helluva cringe. Well played.

reply

That never, ever happened. I read the book, and she most certainly did not chop off his legs. She chopped off the top half of one of his feet. Dunno where he got this nonsense that she chopped off both legs one by one:

This thread is why people need to take whatever anyone posts with a grain of salt. πŸ™„

Alright alright, no need to roll your eyes. I read the book like 20 years ago, and it was an honest mistake. Yes, apparently she chopped off one foot at the ankle to punish him for leaving his room, and then cauterized the stump with a blowtorch. I remember it being the most disturbing part of the book for me, so over the years it must've just gotten exaggerated in my head when I thought back on it.

My bad.

reply

I remember that now. Crazy..
