Back when Alec Baldwin was still and actor and not a self-proclaimed star

It was his ticket into the big leagues. He more or less stayed relevant for another 30 years!
However he was always a paycheck actor. Nothing more.

I agree, he was good.
Imho Sean was better. More senior, more experienced and it shows. Great film btw. Saw it again this summer for the first time in 20 years.

Sean was awesome in this. I rewatch this and Crimson Tide pretty regularly.

He was okay. I prefer Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan. And Sean Connery stole the show from him in this.

Nah, the role of Jack Ryan required a sharp office rat, which Baldwin was. Harrison Ford is an adventurer.

After that he became a self proclaimed "Star" and stopped acting

Man, he was good in The Edge. Really enjoyed his freakout in that movie. I still remember part of that after all these years... "...but get you in a situation... and you BLOOM! You make me sick!"
