A movie that has it all

Just watched a new restoration of this, and realized the movie has it all. It's a fine drama, a funny comedy, a thrilling journey and a nice mystery. While also being a good romance (like it's famous for).

It's also has great acting, direction, editing and music by Maurice Jarre.

It's a movie that has stood the test of time, while being a product of it's time.

Certainly a classic. I saw it as a child, around 10 years old, and it was quite a journey for me as a child.

Absolutely, it's a classic. I also reacted strongly to this as a youngster.

Altough the IMDB rating is bewildering (7.1).

Why, do you want to set me before the King ?

I’m watching it now for the first time in years and agree. Excellent in almost most respects (not a Demi fan and must Tony Goldwyn always be the slime?) Seriously though very entertaining and so glad Whoopi got the well-deserved recognition. Considering it’s 30 years old, costumes and technology still look great!

Yeah this movie weaves in and out of a ton of different genres: romance, fantasy, thriller, even a little horror near the end. Not sure if it was the last mega-blockbuster type like this or not.

The movie reminds me of the genre-bending films of Hong Kong cinema.
