So much better than SVU

I've watched svu on and off for yearent but I am new to this one and I'm blown away by how much deeper this one is. I often have to rewind a few times to understand the legal point that they are making. LOVE IT.

The last two seasons were getting good again & then they cancelled it. I was bummed. That last season had some great stories & Cutter was really in his groove.

I would never watch SVU! How they could produce a series about sexual crimes is sickening.

reply

I agree. I can't watch it. I call it "Law & Order: Rape".
It's like a smut film but instead of watching it, the characters describe the smut film.
Disgusting.

I agree.. even when SVU was at it's best it was more of it's own thing than a wanna be of the mothership. SVU's problem was the forcing of the removal of the darkness. You can't do eps about the issues it faces without being dark. Just doesn't work. It just becomes cliched lecturing then and culture is overdosing on that now. Once Stabler left and in came those lame replacements it turned into a soap opera with a crime show and it's just so awful now. People on this thread was like "Ehh Stabler's too mean!" Ahh please; he got things done and did his job.. if that's too mean something is seriously wrong with you.

As for the OG show things really improved once Anthony Anderson joined in. Him and Sisto were the best pair the show had since Orbach and Noth hands down. The Attorney's were good too and Roache being the trial guy instead of Waterson was a nice change of pace. Just wish the stories were more interesting SVU got the wilder plots.

I don't like any of the spinoffs, only the original.

reply

Agreed. Law And Order is better overall because both the law AND the order part are well represented.

SVU has good cops, but the DA's are lackluster until Barba and Carisi came around, but they are still no where near on the level of Sam Waterson's Jack McCoy.

This show and Stabler-SVU are good shows. Between the two, though, I do like the original for staying on focus: they didn’t dwell on the characters’ personal lives, and the police & lawyers got equal representation, emphasizing that neither is more important. With SVU, there was too much focus on personal lives, like Benson + Stabler’s family; and SVU gave the sense that police > lawyers

i started watching the old seasons etc
and admire the proportion of the law (enforcement) vs order

the episodes appear to flow MUCH better without extra in-between scenes
