I remember being told this about 30 years ago and today my friend's daughter told me again.
Of all the mistakes in films how has this one carried on over all the rest ?π€
I guess because of how strange it is. Other mistakes, like continuity errors, are pretty common.
This is the only one like this I've ever seen.
It kind of reminds me of the urban legend behind, Red Hot Chilli Peppers song Love Rollercoaster. While the theories have been disproven, people still like to think it's true.

shareThe song has a persistent urban legend, that during an instrumental portion of the song, a high-pitched scream is heard (between 1:24 and 1:28 on the single version, or between 2:32 and 2:36 on the album version). This was Billy Beck, but according to the most common legend, it was the voice of an individual being murdered live while the tape was rolling. The "victim's" identity varies greatly depending on the version. The supposed sources of the scream have included an individual who was killed at some prior time, her scream inexplicably recorded and looped into the track.

shareI think this particular rumor was able to take hold because it was pre-internet. There was really nowhere to go to disprove it, and Iβm sure the filmmakers didnβt mind the extra VHS rentals/sales caused by it.
Regarding The Ohio Players and the rumored murder that was caught on the recording of their song Love Rollercoaster, I heard an interesting interview a few years back with one of the band members. He said they didnβt say it was true or not because it was helping sales. It worked and I donβt blame them. Whenever that song comes on the radio now, I ALWAYS listen for the scream!
What I find strange is that nobody caught the same shreek at the intro of the song. Or did they think there were TWO murders? loL
